The aides to all the background work, so they are the ones in the know and in the best position to profit from inside information. These are the best people to bribe if a lobbyist wants to influence an elected politician.

It just gets more astounding every day

For some reason it may not be illegal, but it's damn sure immoral and they should be made to pay the consequences and loose their jobs.

Hardly surprising. These folks are just pumping up their income to get accustomed to the high life waiting for them as a lobbyist once they have enough influence in Congress to handle the needs of special interests.

Just because it's legal DOES NOT mean that it's ethical or just.

Insurance companies regularly deny treatment to their paying customers, often resulting in DEATH, but they are allowed, by law, to what amounts to killing them.

The banksters regularly cheat and steal from their clients, and take enormous risks with the potential of devastating the entire financial system, and yet they get bailed out, and then rewarded to the tune of millions. And they continue to get the respect of the financial community, corporations, Republicans and even the media.

Republicans have followed a cynical strategy to obstruct the Democratically elected government from Day One. They have voted against even their own initiatives, betting that jobs would not come back without action, and they've prevented any action from being taken, resulting in enormous pain and suffering for 98% of Americans. And uneducated, racist, religious m0r0ns have bought into this despicable strategy because they cannot bear to admit their policies were failures.

And now, Republicans are accepting UNPRECEDENTED donations from ANONYMOUS and possibly foreign sources to BUY BACK THEIR POWER in these elections, and the media barely questions it. In fact, many of the media kisser-uppers, like Chuck Todd, have actually had the nerve to mock those who have legitimately asked for TRANSPARENCY!

Americans seem to be utterly confused about what is right, and what is fact, but what can you expect when the FCC and legitimate media allow Faux Ooze to be called a news outlet?

To add insult to injury, I also remember reading that Congressional aides get all their student loans paid for by the government, that is, the taxpayers. Does anyone remember reading this a few months ago?

I am a Government employee - Civil Servant GS-status. I work for a regulatory agency.

Every year I have to disclose any significant financial holdings I have, and place I made money outside of my Government salary.

I am NOT ALLOWED to hold stocks or securities, or to play markets in the areas my agency regulates.

Why do these bozo's get to do this?

Congressional aides are one of many loopholes in government.... they are necessary, but should have term limits as well as controls on investments.

In 1987, I visited Washington as a member of the American Electronics Association. I was a Republican at the time. However, by far the least informed Senator I met was a Republican from Nevada, Chic Hecht, elected in 1982. We were there to talk about avoiding trade sanctions with Japan, and he knew and cared squat about the issue. However, I discovered that really didn't matter as he had a young congressional aide who was intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable about the issues. We two had a productive discussion. Chic confined himself to discussing Richard Nixon's trip to China in the early 70s.

This was an extreme case of "aides" in the Senate.... but these necessary support people shape the information that reaches members of Congress and the legislation they sponsor. They are courted by lobbyists and are unregulated at present. In some cases they are passed from one member of Congress to the next like a social disease.

Fanned for your 'aides' pun! I've often felt that Republicanism was a social disease passed on from one generation to the next...

Letmesee just how exactly will the banks and mortgages companies force people to pay 200% interest on a declining asset? Beat people like slaves.
04:28 PM on 10/11/2010
Why does this not surprise anyone? Why would any of the 'swamp dwellers' do something that may impact their income.

"Only six lawmakers in the House supported this year's new version of the bill, which has no companion legislation in the Senate."
