It's time to insist that ABC, NBC and CBS get the contracts for major league sports coverage. There are still millions of homes that can't afford to subscribe to cable networks. In a deep recession, these sports fans should not be held hostage to the profit-driven decisions of cable content producers and the companies that deliver sports and other programming to the public.

The sponsors who advertise on these programs hold the key to changing the system. If Fox can't deliver the audience, advertisers should think twice about sponsoring the games and the NFL should step in to move to broadcasting networks who bring in fans.
