Wow. Can you still call yourself Fiji (sourced from Fiji) if you're no longer operating in the country? Rebrand!

Fiji Water is a heinous rapacious corporation.

The swill sells for $4 a liter but they are unwilling to pay $ .15 a liter.

They have tax exempt status on the island.

This corporation has benefited significantly from exploiting the Fiji aquifer at the expense of Fijians and the environment. They have been in bed with the various Fiji governments until now. They think they are running things there.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yup be like Canada, they are holding on to their fresh water, not selling it off to some US corp. as far as I know. Regardless if the founders of said corp are big buck libs and friends to this namesake website. And folks get a brita filter, don't litter the planet with those plastic bottles, despite all the bs that they are recycled/recyclable, GET REAL most aren't.

Yeah but that's what made your water good. You know, I will never ever follow this dream through, but after spending some time in Panama, where it rains and rains and rains for part of the year, I thought it would be a fabulous idea to sell Tropical Rain Water. From the heavens into your bottle. Pure. Tropical Rainwater. So all you entrepreneurs out there, GO FOR IT. Can you imagine the commercials for it. A massive cloudburst in the tropics, the pure water falling directly into your bottle. I'll take 1% when you make it happen for the muse.

That's about the silliest thing I've ever heard. You should owe money for even suggesting that.

Talk about wanting money for nothing.

This is undoubtedly the best bottled water ever!  It is just so expensive that I can't afford it.

I KNEW it was taxes. Too bad Fiji can't sue to retain the name, if they don't get water there anymore.

Am I supposed to feel bad for Fiji? (the company)

Save the water.

Water extraction there has damaged the water table and the local people are experiencing water shortages and salt contamination. So maybe just as well that the company leaves.

Perhaps that is why the government wanted to increase their taxes -- to pay to reverse this harm that they are causing. Gee, what a concept. The company responsible for environmental damage defrays the cost of inflicting it.

There is political turmoil going on there right now so what happens to any tax they collect is dubious. Also, consider that much of the harm is out of their hands- this water is transported via container ship averaging 300 metric tonnes of fuel per day to get to the US- then transported via rail or truck to the grocery stores. Think about all of that.

Fijian's are some of the greatest people on the face of this earth. I lived there for over three years, I know. It is the right of Fijians to practice self determination and not be bullied by ignorant billionaires or other governments. The name Fiji belongs to the people of Fiji as does the limited water supply in their ISLAND nation. I have rarely heard anything so pathetic as billionaires crying and throwing a tantrum because a poor country demanding to profit and better itself with its own resources.

Fijians have transformed what at one time was the land of cannibals that European whalers steered clear of into a land of economic cannibalism

Historical fact hardly deserves such criticism. The cannibalism of early Fiji is well documented.
