Oh for heavens sakes people. The devices being argued about don't define anyone.

How about realizing that if someone knocks your purchasing decision that it's their problem not yours? Get a provider that works in all the places you are likely to be, then buy the best phone offered for that service.

Yeesh.

Good luck, with that.  Verizon made out big in that net neutrality deal.  Unrestricted wireless, loopholes galore.  ATT is in a class action lawsuit brought forth by the US District Court because they charged fraudulent fees, taxes and surcharges on customers for iphone data plans even if they didn't have one. Under their and Apple's agreement they probably got a portion of the cut.  All customers needed was to have a smart phone in violation of the tax freedom act.  Now apple is getting in bed with another dog picking up new flees.

It's a very well done device especially if you are a Mac household. I will, however, not ever buy AT&T again, simply because I have yet to have a good experience with them. I have an IPhone, but use it like a touch on free wireless networks, and will turn it over to Verizon when they support it. I also have had only good experiences with Verizon. Isn't it, what, odd? Funny? I don't know, that everyone has their own experiences with something!

You won't be able to use your current iphone on Verizon, you have a GSM phone and Verizon is CDMA...
05:21 PM on 12/27/2010
Hmmm. I don't know. If Sprint had the iPhone I might get it. But verizon and ESPECIALLY AT&T suck, at least in my area.

I go out of my way to buy American made products. Are there any smartphones made in the USA?

It's funny that you make it sound like we make these devices and computers. We don't. We don't even make basic cell phones or assemble towers here anymore. It's all China.

I really wish I hadn't gotten my iPhone. The least expensive plan for it at AT&T is still costing me $75/mo, and I have just decided to get rid of it.

For the extremely mobile business type, it could be worth it - especially if their employer pays for it. But for a regular joe like me, the iPhone is financially abusive.. and simply not worth the money.

iPhone = cool techology, bad business model

It's a great business model. It's getting people to spend a ton of money on something they don't really need (and in some cases, don't even use). Apple's sold millions of them, people go out and buy the new one when it comes out, and each one costs, what, $400 up front and 75/mo? The iPhone is printing them money.

100 to 300 up-front, depending on if you get a 3Gs/8GB, 4/16GB, or 4/32GB. At least with a contract. Droids aren't much better when you're on a contract verizon.

a little over $600 for the phone, before subsidy by the carrier.

Does everyone in the country really need to be using the IPhone?
04:48 PM on 12/27/2010
No. It's for young men who need to compensate for certain inadequacies

Until the components and anything else are assembled in the U.S. I'll be using the phone I have.

that will never happen .... and probably didn't happen with the phone you have now.
04:44 PM on 12/27/2010
I beleive if you check most of your electronics, including your current phone, none were likely manufactured in the United States. Televisions, land-line phones, calculators, etc.; all likely came from another country.
04:06 PM on 12/27/2010
Verizon has a larger coverage area, but ATTs network is faster. I'll stick with the faster network.

Let's not forget who Verizon is. Originally known as PacTel Cellular. They were not allowed to sell the phones back then only the service. Then lobbist somehow convienced congress to change the bundeling law allowing them to sell the phones and service combined. That's when they did the spin off and became AirTouch Cellular competed with most of their dealers who went under. Then they became Verizon. ATT is the old LA Cellular company.

Verizon Wireless is made up of a lot more companies than Airtouch and PacTel. There is also Vodafone, Atlantic Bell, and GTE, among others, mixed in there.

This is odd because they just called me 5 days ago to update my old phone. When I asked them about upgrading to the iPhone they sincerely said we're not getting it in. Who's telling the truth?

old trick so you will have to renew your plan again with the upgraded plan and the iphone if you choose to change. It's all about keeping you in perpetual contract mode.

I would like to tell Apple where to put their foreign made phones.
06:53 PM on 12/27/2010
Are you going to tell everyone else where to put theirs too? Nobody makes them here.

I'm on the fence. I enjoy being able to talk and surf at the same time. There are plenty of times that I'm on the phone but want to text, check facebook, and/or send am email all while talking on the phone. I love that AT

It's perfect my contract ends with Verizon at the end of feb. I hate my blackberry curve that I got in june of 09'. It's slow freezes up and the internet is probably just as fast as dial-up.

I'm excited to get the iphone it will be nice to have everything on one device instead of having to carry around my phone and my ipod.

I'm still sticking with Verizon though.
