In response to Canada having lower healthcare costs under Universal Healthcare..

seanJ wrote:
Canada saves a lot of money living under our protection. We should tell them they are on their own and we will do nothing to help if they are attacked.....

I am Canadian SeanJ and in no way are we living under your "protection"! Protection from who? When have you ever heard of Canada being on someones hit list? We are not, and do you want to know why? Canadians don't feel the need to tell other countries how they should run things all the while being very behind in modern day ways of life like equal rights !! Oh, and by the way...If there ever was an attack on Canada I am pretty sure that the French, the English and a few other powerful countries would step up to help us. You won't see any freedom fries here!!

And one more thing Mr. J..When America was attacked on that September day it was US who helped YOU, it was us housing Americans who were grounded in our own homes, it was US who had our fire, police rushed to New York and it was and has been OUR military that has been fighting and dying in Afghanistan since that day while your troops were sent to Iraq!!!

Sorry to all of my other American friends, i know this was totally off topic but sometimes such a ridiculous comment warrants an answer!!

“Zero.

Canada piggy backs off our military to defend them in this hemisphere and against the rest of the evil in this world.

Canada does not come close to producing any of medical innovations in medicine and technological advances that will not come with universal health care.

================

Well, we did give the world insulin, penecillin, prosthetic limbs, palliative care, and a whole host of other medical innovations.

And we've been fighting in Afghanistan since day one.

So add the Canadian military and medical industry to the long list of things you don't have any experience with.

BTW, why are you commenting on universal health care after admitting you don't have any experience with it?

That's conceding the debate before you even begin.

Oh my god! Insulin was invented in 1922 in Toronto. (ROFL)

Palliative care began in the hospice movement and is now widely used outside of traditional hospice care. Hospices were originally places of rest for travelers in the 4th century. (ROFL - you are killing me!)

The earliest known written reference to an artificial limb was made around 500 B.C., Herodotus wrote of a prisoner who escaped from his chains by cutting off his foot, which he later replaced with a wooden substitute. An artificial limb dating from 300 B.C., was a copper and wood leg unearthed at Capri, Italy in 1858.

I'm sorry. I thought I was dealing with an adult - I was are talking about POST universal health care and innovations, R&D etc. that Canadians use today etc.

And please! How can one talk about the military if you have never been in the military or health care if you have not experienced e.g. Canadian health care, British Health care - don't you get embarrassed by having to rely on such baseless arguments?

The Tea Party is a corporate-funded Republican campaign, laughably disguised with a big false mustache as “independent,” in which Americans who are upset by the president's skin color unite to demand that they be denied health care so that billionaires can receive more tax cuts in Jesus' name.

First off, thanks for admitting that, due to your lack of experience, you have no idea what you're talking about.

You don't debate much do you?

'...In 2003, research and development expenditures were approximately $95 billion with $40 billion coming from public sources and $55 billion coming from private sources.[25][26] These investments into medical research have made the United States the leader in medical innovation, measured either in terms of revenue or the number of new drugs and devices introduced.[27][28] In 2006, the United States accounted for three quarters of the world’s biotechnology revenues and 82% of world R&D spending in biotechnology....'

In other words, Canadians and the rest of the freeloaders have no problems taking full advantage of the innovations that come from the (profit driven) US companies etc., and have no issue with refusing to let us sell our product at market rates in their country - but then try to say their system is better than ours.

Try doing your own R&D for drugs and medical innovations and do without our drugs if you won't pay fair market value. Do that and 1/2 of Canada would be in the streets begging for our system.
Without our innovations, R&D, and your price fixing etc., your health care card would be .....to put it mildly, worthless.

But feel free to make your childish immature comments and replies - here in America, unlike the crazy Canadian laws on free speech, we tolerate most anything - but you will have to sit at the children's table on Thanksgiving.

Well considering Canadians are healthier in general, and we take care of each other then I doubt it! By the way, it's Americans coming to Canada for meds not the other way around. It's also Americans that come across the border for healthcare a lot of times too. Even your Queen Palin admitted to it.

Why would you have to do that? It's online in several places. You can easily find it on the White House's website. If you found Huffington Post without any problems, surely you can Google the HCR law.

Hope Boehner and his Boyz are ready to kiss these already-enacted parts of Health Care Reform goodbye:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rep-john-b-larson/10-major-new-health-refor_b_736766.html

# Keep you covered when you get sick: Simple mistakes or typos will no longer be grounds for insurance companies to cancel your insurance.

# Cover kids with pre-existing conditions

# Allow young adults to stay on their parents' plan up to age 26: Even if their first few jobs don't provide health benefits, your kids can still remain covered.

# Removal of lifetime limits

# Phase out annual limits

# Pay for preventive care like mammograms and immunizations: Addressing problems before they start can help keep you healthier, and new insurance plans will now cover many preventative tests and immunizations without any copayment.

# Give you a better appeals process for insurance claims: Now you'll have a guaranteed and fair path to help you receive the benefits you paid for if insurance companies deny your claim.

# Let you choose your own doctor: Health reform makes it clear that you can choose any participating primary care provider as your provider, and any available participating pediatrician to be your child's primary care provider.

# Provide easier access to OB-GYN services: Women will no longer be required to have a referral from a primary care provider before seeking OB-GYN care.

# Allow you to use the nearest emergency room without penalty

It's funny, for two years the GOP was screaming "where are the jobs" and what is their first order of business in the new Congress, repeal of health care. As Americans made it clear last year that they want Congress to work together to get things done to move our economy forward, the GOP wants to look backward and waste time on purely symbolic fights that do absolutely nothing for the American people. DeMint said HCR will be the president's waterloo, it just might be his and the GOPs.”

President Obama should have a small recorder that has Mitch McConnell's voice saying "Our goal is to make him a one-term President". He should play that clip into microphones whenever he's giving a speech or responding to questions of why the Republicans are acting as they are, or what he thinks of bipartisanship. He should just have it at the ready...and then say "See? See what I'm dealing with? These people care nothing about the American People, they only care about getting me out of office."

Would be a nice visual.

Repeal & Replace - great bumper sticker talk - a.k.a. Republican ideas -- as for actually carrying thru with it? hm. so having control of the Congress for 10 years didn't do them a bit of good, except expand unpaid-for programs, as in 2 wars and Medicare Part D, so now they blame the Dems. Ha! Governing is SUCH fun - guess all cattle & no hat is another name for Republicans. They are going to mess up their own space, picking unnecessary fights in order to prove 'something' rather than face the fact that the American people want some governing done - not picking useless and stupid tv-warfare of words.

GOP: "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!!! Now the first thing we're going to do is get rid of this 'Job Killer' Obamacare"

Reality: 1) it's paid for. 2) it will create jobs. 3) it will reduce the long-term deficit. 4) they just don't want this legislative win for Obama - it would cause people to like him and not be afraid of his socialist, alien, un-American agenda. That about it, Righties?

Everything except the enumerated powers of the federal government.

The federal government has only three functions: protection against foreign invaders, protection of citizens from wrongs committed against them by other citizens, and building and maintaining public institutions and public works that the private sector could not profitably provide.

One would think that the Rs would like to keep health care reform. After all, one of their corporate masters, the insurance cartel, stand to gain 45-50 million new customers. Lots of money to be made for providing mediocre coverage.

And it was wall street, Clinton and Rubin on the dem side and Sen Graham on the Republican side that wanted Glass Steagall repealed which ultimately led to the sub prime mortgage/derivative debacle, crashed the economy, and made trillions in profits for Wall St and left the middle class holding the 'bag'. Wall St was bailed out 100% and is back to profitability - 20% of the middle class does not have job.

That you cannot see that the insurance companies (big business) are doing the exact same thing here - they want the mandate because they know the poor are not going to be paying anything for most if not all of their insurance but the rest of us, particularly the middle class, are going to see their premiums skyrocket or (most probable) their level of care reduced substantially. Wall St. sees the mandate as yet another chance to grab more profits for themselves, without any sense of conscience what it will mean for those who work for a living and pay for all or part of their medical coverage.

Once again, it's Wall St Profits over common sense.
