If I could somehow locate all of them, I'd personally apologize to each and every single person I talked into voting for and donating to and joining me in working to elect President Obama. Especially the young people of color. I feel like I helped the new feudal lords game them and drain many of the belief that we can affect real political change.
08:20 AM on 01/05/2011
I hope the people you're talking about don't give up as easily as you do.
08:49 AM on 01/05/2011
Did I say a word about giving up? No!

I've been an activist since the Civil Rights/ Viet Nam days and even though I'm getting old, I am still fighting and will keep fighting as long as I draw breath.

But, because I am getting old, I have seen hope and enthusiasm and levels of left/ liberal/ progressive activism rise and fall more than once over the decades and right now, I see many young people being drained of hope and enthusiasm. To ignore that this is happening as a result of a thousand cuts of betrayal by President Obama and other corporatist war monger Democratic Party politicians would be foolish.

Giving up on the Democratic Party is the first step towards becoming an effective and responsible citizen.

Time to go back from 2/3 majority to 100%. Watch GOP-Tea-bags punch each other out at the primaries. Fun Fun Fun coming to a theater near you.

Hillary and Obama are from the same mold. Corporatist DLC. But at least Hillary would have stood her ground on health care and we could have gotten a much better deal. I will not vote for Obama again.

Hillary is far superior!!! She would have stood for public option. Without public option, the present Health care system is an empty hollow hole!!!!

Keep telling yourself that!
08:17 AM on 01/05/2011
It's easy to say what would have happened, since it didn't happen and there's no way of seeing what might have been. If that makes you feel good, go ahead. But ask yourself this: If she couldn't win a campaign in which she had a huge advantage out of the gate, how do you think she could have been any more effective at pushing legislation that the majority of Congress (especially the Senate) never really wanted?

The new GOP is worse than the old GOP.

You have any better ideas? Easy tp armchair QB on this..he needs someone who knows the workings and the obstuctionists in DC = Daschle He needs someone who knows business =
Daley ...Sounds like you get you work for Fox News..all complaints no ideas
07:09 AM on 01/05/2011
That is the best we can expect?
More likely--if we got the same players, serving the same masters as Bush, wearing a D hat instead a R hat--you would cry foul. Either it is about defending the home team--like it was a sporting event, or some just can't bring themselves to face the world as it is--instead of desperate rationalization and hostile defense of the promise of change. Hope springs eternal.

I KNEW this day was coming. We now have something ELSE to B%$CH about President Obama. This is a GREAT way to start the next 2 years of bashing, complaining and whining. Why not start here?

I will reserve judgement until 2012.
06:53 AM on 01/05/2011
LOL. what else? It has been the same refrain since the start. Give him more time, he just needs more time, after 5 months, after 8 months, after a year, after 16 months, after 2 years---and now it is, I will reserve judgement until 2012 and ignore everything in the meantime.

Or the apologists blame the obstructionist repubs, as if Obama's critics from the left are unaware of the behavior of the opposition. When I tell them this is about so much more than that, like the Afghanistan war and the policies connected to it, picking ex-Clinton officials for his economic staff, a trend that may continue, suppressing an investigation into the Bush administration, etc., they still find ways to defend those policies.

I speak for MYSELF and no one else. And its MY perogative that I choose to reserve judgement until 2012. I am no worse off since President Obama has taken office. I might be slightly better off. But again, that remains to be seen. I DO KNOW that the last 8 years have been HELL and is the CAUSE of all this pain NOW. So I'm not so quick to throw this President under the bus as so many others are doing. Besides, this is only day 5 of the New Year. I've got ALL year to bash him, if that's what I want to do.

In Daley we have another Wall Street insider. In Daschle we have a guy who lied re his taxes then lobbied against health care reform.

Change only a fool can believe in.

Just when I was willing to give Obama another chance after the brief flurry of sticking his neck out and actually advocating something, then we get these list of possible appointees, all drawn from exactly the same triangulating DLC corporate kissing pool from which the first bunch of disappointing jerks were drawn.

I gave up on the guy in July '08, when he betrayed those of us who supported him in the primaries based upon his promise to filibuster any bill which gave the telecoms retroactive immunity for illegally spying on us. Obama turned around & voted for immunity (by supporting the FISA bill), thus revealing himself to be the coward and corporate lackey that he is.
