I worry when Onion articles begin to intrude upon the real world.

How about we just put plexiglass around him. He can be the "bubble boy rep". They can put a little door on the plexiglass to send sandwiches and coffee in and leave him a little bucket in there. These GOPers are a hoot now aren't they?

Don't ask this tax payer to foot that bill. There is no way that public money should be spent for protection from the very culture they created. If they want extra protection they should go ask their owners, the NRA to come up with the money. After all, it is the NRA and their toadies in congress that profit from all this violence and death. The least they could do is pay for it.

I guess the security guards weren't enough. If Burger King has plexiglass the congress should also. :)

Is it me or are politicians always very quick to protect themselves be it physically or financially? Saturday's shooting was tragic but the answer shouldn't be "build a plastic bubble."

First of all that would be a tremendous waste of time and money. Secondly it promotes a fear state where we're just perpetuating the idea that everyone is a personal threat and should be viewed skeptically.

I'm not foolish enough to think we should live life in ignorant bliss, but let's be reasonable.

On a less serious note, if they do erect this plexiglass wall, will die hard politicos watch Congress in session and pound on the glass like in hockey games? If so then maybe it is worth it. "Pass that bill! *clap* Pass that bill!"

Why would they need that wall? Is the political atmosphere dangerous?

maybe build a couple more capitol buildings underground and congress will meet secretly with lots of armed guards. the extra capitols? to fool terrorists and aggressive media types who wouldn't know for sure which capitol was being used. it would cost zillions, but we gotta keep those politicians safe. oh, yeah, and keep people outta the washington core, the mall could be used for our elite politicians to munch popcorn and plot.

Of course he would want to do that, the man knows that quite a few of his constituents and his Beck/ Limbaugh following mates are a bit, shall we say, kwazy!

They want guns AND a Plexi-glas shield.

Maybe they ride through towns in tanks blaring messages about how tough they are on terrorism.

I hope they remember to provide fresh air. Sounds like the congressman from Indiana is already suffering from lack of oxygen.

no air would be fine with me.

A Plexiglas shield around congress would be appropriate – “How much is that doggie in the window” as all of our elected reps are for sale to the highest bidder and it would avoid the hard choices when debating serious firearms controls. The shield might very costly; I am confident that in this case however, cost will not even be a consideration.

would that be similar to a zoo habitat for lions?

I can't wait to hear the tea party ranting about how much that will cost.

Here's an idea Mr. Burton why not act like civilized human beings. Most of the rest of the world does it, why should we be so different?

So, instead of behaving like educated adults, in office to work to keep the nation running smoothly, they decided that they'll continue to act like spoiled teenagers and put up a plastic protection wall so they can be viewed like animals in a cage?
