I like jalapenos and hot sauce

The next time you see figures showing how far  many black communities are behind other communities than just  remember this. It is his money to do with as he pleases but here are so many positive things he could have invested in and he chose a fried chicken joint.  Black celebrities could not come together to keep open the bank started by Jackie Robinson , join Bill Cosby in trying to buy NBC when it was first up for sale, or finance other important business ventures. But they can open rap studios, bars, and chicken joints. Hooray for progress.

Weebils, excellent comment and I could not agree more.

Maybe he just likes fried chicken an' like the Coloenla has a passion for it an' figures he'd like to share his particular style of it, man.

Food is universal. People love to fix it, share it and even open venues to do so with it. That's a problem? Black people can't sell or even eat fried chicken cuz then white folks'd get all uppity an' blast them for playin' to white people's stereotypes of them?

Don'chya think maybe it says more about the white folks bleating about this than it does black folks for liking fried chicken, as white folks (and other types o' peeps, say, Chinese, Indians (American and Asian), disabled and abled, etc. also do?

Have you ever heard of Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem? She serves fired chicken and a variety of food. There are black restaurant owners who serve and eat fried chicken. But the culinary arts were their first love and they dedicated themselves to that passion. They went beyond just associating  themselves with fried chicken. He is deliberately tying himself, his lowlife style, and negative stereotypes to his "chicken joint" . This is not about someone advancing the culinary arts or business. This is just another show that will sell to an America that enjoys seeing a  black man being a clown.  They watch him to forget the "uppity" black man in the white house.

The `Colonel` is reputed to have ripped the recipe off from someone else.

t surprise me. Just like Edison ripping off various folks including Nicola Tesla.

Hopefully, he doesn't hire Kanye West as a manager.
01:39 PM on 01/24/2011
Or Kenny Rogers.

Both would turn me off of the food, what with Kanye's diva'tude an' Kenny's freakish face.

Flav was once a respectable figure in the African American diaspora.
01:37 PM on 01/24/2011
What, opening a business is not respectable?
01:46 PM on 01/24/2011
I'm not buying it, Flav can do better than this. Opening a business is very respectable and shoudl be applauded. However, going from founding a conscious hip hop group, to cooning on VH1 to now opening a Fried Chicken restaurant just oozes bufoonery.

The path he took to get where he is today undermines the accomplishment.

"Fanned and faved. You get it."

Hmm....

...is he officially no longer " a respectab;e figure in the African American diaspora"? Wha' happened?
01:49 PM on 01/24/2011
No he's not. Flavor of Luv happened.

That is exactly what he is doing. Yes, it sells but he has sold his soul with it.
01:42 PM on 01/24/2011
Nah, man. Everyone's gotta eat. Food is one of the main universals for all human beings.

Even a hardcore rapper's got taste buds and loves to chow down. Why's that a problem? Just because he's getting older and decides to try his hand at being a restaraunteur? That's bad? That takes his "street cred" away?

Rappers don't eat, or enjoy food?
01:20 PM on 01/24/2011

What, having a job not enough for you?
01:45 PM on 01/24/2011
Maybe the man just likes fried chicken. I do, and I'm white. It's okay for an old white guy in a white suit and funky Southern goatee to sell fried chicken but a black dude does it an' automatically he's playin' to stereotype?

I think that says more about those who would claim such than him in sellin' the food. The only thing I'd criticize him for is if the chicken was as bad as KFC is these days.

the mac 'n' cheese better be CHEESY!!!
01:46 PM on 01/24/2011
Damn straight, man!

Ain't good M&C if it ain't all gooey with cheese. I make M&C, the Kraft kind (cuz if you're gonna go for comfort food, which is generally not good for ya, then go all the way), then add in some Velveeta.
