It's not really that important who is thanking "god" for their atheletic achievements, it's much more important who "god" is betting on!

I think you have your priorities mixed up.

Rather then hating on theists, you are in a Good position to guide them if you really care to, but then again, maybe that isn't the atheist agenda, or your's in particular.

The world is filled with generous people, atheist and theists alike, and trillions of dollars, through taxes and private donations are donated to the poor. What is "lacking" are Good laws, rules and regulations, including oversight and followup regarding those dollars.

What happens in the vacume, the absence of such laws, rules and regulations, oversight and followup is theft. Despots, dictators, evil men and women "steal" that money right out of the mouth of starving children around the world!

Rather then beat theists over the head with the stick of guilt, trying persuading them to your cause. That said, if your cause is to feed the starving children around the world, "without"...."first" establishing rules, regulations, oversight and followup, you are participating in the continuence of starving children around the world and aiding and abetting despots, dictators and evil men and women.

He wasn't hating on theists, he was pointing out that if god intervenes in sports games, than HE'S the one with mixed up priorities.

You'd be surprised how many atheists, (myself included) don't care if someone believes in a gods, it's more bringing people into the modern world of rational thinking. and it's happening, I know more and more who completely discard all religions as myth but still hold on to belief in god.

God has Only One Son. The Son and the Father are in agreement. "The Father and I are One."

There will be no losers on the field that day, because it is a Good Sport. It has fair, equal and rational rules and regulations. The Father and the Son are Good Sports.

As to the fans, and even some players, sometimes not so much. That said, they can always be rehabilitated.

Jesus said, “I have not come to destroy the laws and the prophets, but to fulfill them.”

To fulfill something is to both fully fill and fully end something at the same time. A glass fully filled with water ends it’s emptiness. The glass fully filled lacks emptiness. Laws/rules/regulation/ that are irrational, lack justice. Jesus did not come to destroy the law, i.e., rules and regulations, for that would be chaos, but rather came to institute fair, balanced, rational laws, rules and regulations. Football is the Sport of Good Men, even when some of those men are in dire need of rehabilitation. The sport itself is not shamed.

It is not God that needs rehabilitation but our perception of God and ourselves that needs rehabilitation.

Our country could learn a lot from football.

I'm always amused when athletes thank God after they win....does that mean that the losing team or player was not viewed as favorably by God?...I wish there was a way to know ahead of time, so I could book my bet depending on whom God wanted to win!

Well he obviously would favor you over others, not everyone has a healthy family, yet they may deserve one just as much as you. Face it, if there is a god, he does play favorites, you just have to look at the conditions people around the world are born into.
04:18 PM on 02/01/2011
This really is an arrogant view. The world is full of natural disaster and disease, both of which, if your God is the creator, were designed and effected by him. He stands by and lets those people die. Worse yet, if he is omniscient he knows these things will happen.

And you have the arrogance to believe that your good fortune is God's favor. Actually you don't even think about whether he favors you or not, you just blindly assume he does.

Please don't insult our intelligence by saying that he has given us free will and we should have done more to reduce human suffering.

Leave God out of football! I'm always amazed at the sheer arrogance of players who actually believe God has nothing better to do than help them win a game! I took great glee in watching Tearful Tebow after the 2009 SEC Championship. He was sporting a Bible citation in his eyeblack that ended up being nearly the final score! 32-13 and ALABAMA won! It was hilarious!

Indoctrination causes those who would otherwise be logical individuals to think illogically. And unfortunately the dogma continues to be inculcated from all directions in the day-to-day life of most Americans. Sad state of affairs.
