Shouldn't Deutschland Security be more concerned with who was MAILING BOMBS IN MARYLAND, or where the missing 23 TRILLION PENTAGON DOLLARS went and not who's streaming football games?

WAKE UP sheople, this is no longer our government. It's been seized by corporate interests.

Oh and the WWNFL is a joke.

This is a power move by Goodell to funnel/ force people into having to buy NFL network, directtv and NFL Sunday ticket in order to follow their favorite teams if they live outside the broadcast area.

Commercials are broadcast as well, so the advertisers dont lose out on anything. The problem is the NFL and cable providers are charging too much, everybody doesnt want to purchase every game every Sunday. Let fans purchase the stream for 5 to 10 dollars a game legally and everybody wins big. Its the obvious answer, but Goodells affair with direct tv is killing it.

Here we go again, government over reaching their power. So now they are just Hijacking peoples websites if they contain links with copyrighted content??, no warning, no court, nothing.

Yet some people on here think the Kill--switch that congress, will be a Good thing??.

This is want will happen: If the Government say you committed a crime on the Internet, BANG, you Web access is BLOCKED by the Government. Yet we complain when the Internet is switched off in Egypt and think our Government cant do it here!.

Yea I see your point, but I heard of lots of people watching the entire World Cup an many NFL games (including the playoffs) on this website. No way that was legal and you had to know it would come to an end.

They didn't "contain links to pirated material" they were "there for the sole purpose of distributing pirated material."

Hearing people whine about not being able to steal content is funny.

How is this activity more of a threat to our National Security than the "bending-us-over" that Wall Street is doing?

Before you join the 500 people who post that DHS has no business doing this, the power was specifically granted from day one- it is to protect interstate commerce which the Feds have been tasked with regulating and protecting since Mr Fulton's ferryboat.
"...
(1) Actual, potential, or threatened interference with, attack on, compromise of, or incapacitation of critical infrastructure or protected systems by either physical or computer-based attack or other similar conduct (including the misuse of or unauthorized access to all types of communications and data transmission systems) that violates Federal, State, or local law, harms the interstate commerce of the United States, or threatens public health or safety

Yes- I agree that they could be investigating/arresting some of those who ran our financial systems and home values into the ground, or gee maybe work on our crumbling infestructure, so don't flame me for simply pointing out the clause that grants them the power. Thank your people who rushed to vote in the Patriot Act.

Ok. So how was the sports streaming website an: " Actual, potential, or threatened interference with, attack on, compromise of, or incapacitation of critical infrastructure or protected systems" ?

Unless your definition of system is so wide as to include NBC's business plan?

There does seem to be unauthorized access involved, it may "harm interstate commerce" (or it may healp it a great deal, depending on your point of view) but unless these are in the service of: "Actual, potential, or threatened interference with, attack on, compromise of, or incapacitation of critical infrastructure or protected systems" then they don't seem to be the activities targeted by the law you cite, nor any rightful concern of Homeland Security.

I've been using atdhe.net for a while now to get out of market NFL games. I would gladly pay between $5 and $10 per single regular season game to stream that game from the NFL's official site to my computer, but the NFL isn't interested in that sort of broadcasting.

Ultimately, this is a repeat of what we went through with the RIAA. Old organization that are slow to adapt to new technologies cling to their legacy business models for as long as possible, a time period extended by exerting influence on the government to take legal action against the people who host their content without their approval.

Why I make the comparison to the music situation is that we all saw what happened when iTunes came out charging $.99 per song. A lot of people who were illegally downloading music started buying content again because it was finally offered at a fair market price. Hopefully the same thing happens with sports content. I'd love to pay for high quality streaming feeds of games on an à la carte basis. I suspect that a lot of other people would be willing to do the same.

The cat is out of the bag, so to speak. Hijacking individual domains is sticking a finger into a leaking dam. As long as the content isn't offered by the leagues in a reasonable way, people will find alternatives. Until leagues wise up, they'll continue losing money.
03:22 PM on 02/05/2011
I absolute agree with this, you hit all points. They MUST adapt to new technologies, shutting down a website isn't helping the situation. I just looked at NHL.com to see how much it would be stream a hockey game: $119.00 single payment for a bunch of games I probably won't watch or about $24/month. That's just ridiculous for streaming from the internet

Free America End Big Government
12:01 PM on 02/02/2011
Once again more signs that we have allowed the government to grow to big. Now homeland security can go after sports sites. What is next any website that does not embrace the big government concept. Big government thinks that they are giving you health care so you will not care if they take just a little of your rights. It would only be fair you give up something for your entitlement.
When government relies on the people the people have the power. When the people rely on government for health care, retirement, housing, food etc. the government has all the power. It is that power they are exercising now.

Oh please. When someone gets arrested for robbing a bank, do you complain about how the government got to big and is now "telling us we can't take money if we want!!!"

Those sites are pirate sites. They steal content from the producers who pay a lot of money to make those shows.

The super bowl isn't a charity. It costs millions of dollars to put on and if the people who do it don't make money.. you think they're going to keep doing it so you can watch it for free?

What about the commercials? In the case of the online viewer vs a DVR...DVR is more of a threat to commercials than in the online viewership

ICE immigration and customs enforcement. i'm guessing when their "officials" go out in the field they are armed. how many armed bureaucrats are there?

government is out of control. and DHS is at the wheel.

Always looking for the broader perspective
11:50 AM on 02/02/2011
Time to take a very close look at the very broad scope of the Department of Homeland Security.
This department was setup after 9/11 supposedly to try and prevent further terrorist attack in the USA but it now appear to be a tool of the RIAA and the MPAA. The fear is that the DOHC can operate both within and outside of our current laws to achieve it's objectives.
