Republicans have retreated from their vile attempt at redefining rape. THANK YOU Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Your firm but compassionate defense of women and humanity appears to have resonated even in Republican Right Wing circles.

So, you’re kidding right, then again the people on the Huff will believe most anything, heck you even believed the drivel Rep. Wasserman Schultz and the AP sent out.

Hello, are you there? Before anything becomes a bill the wording is corrected, just because Schultz decided to grand stand on the normal process, makes her a bit of a loon, not a hero!! Just another case of the psychotic left need some more lies and half-truths to rant and rave over!

Go take a look at the bill the Language has not changed since they first posted it before 1/20, but they do agree the use of the word “forcible” may be limiting the definition of rape!

Just another half a story on the Huff rushed out to meet their quota, and poorly edited!!

Ah, blow it out your ear. Republicans have always been pro-rape. Why do you think they voted to allow KBR to rape their employees overseas? More details here, http://www.republicansforrape.org/legislators/

Pelosi is too liberal for moderates to listen to now. I can't support her or Reid, just as I could never support McCain, Palin or Bachmann. Too extreme!

Please read the bill. It is all about funding. Not only does it define the "type" of rape but it does not allow you to use your HSAs (that's your money) to pay for an abortion. The reason is that the HSA money is pre-tax.

Just go read the bill. Its short.
10:36 AM on 02/03/2011
DWS has a reputation of being accurate in her use of facts. Might pay to hit the website and compare the language of the old and the new. Conception through rape should be a huge exception to the funding feud.

What you mean the Liberals would actually have facts, and not the imaginations, half-truths and lies of the AP, Huff, MSNBC and Maddow?

I will even give them the link to govtrack:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h112-3

No wait no wait they probably will have a hard time figuring out how to follow a link I will post the section referred to in the article!

“‘SEC. 309. TREATMENT OF ABORTIONS RELATED TO RAPE, INCEST, OR PRESERVING THE LIFE OF THE MOTHER.
‘The limitations established in sections 301, 302, 303, and 304 shall not apply to an abortion--
‘(1) if the pregnancy occurred because the pregnant female was the subject of an act of forcible rape or, if a minor, an act of incest; or
‘(2) in the case where the pregnant female suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the pregnant female in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.”

As for the "Forcible" word before rape that is the defenition of rape

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/rape

And even the sponosors of the Bill have said that forcible needs to be removed.

Your interpretation leads me to believe that rape is 'consentual'. No is no. The Right wants less government but yet insists on controlling a woman's vagina!! Carry the fetus to term, and you are on your own after you give birth, plus have to pay for the medical bills too! Sounds ideal, only if you have male genitilia!

Gee, thanks for the condescension, Mark- and they're removing it to PRETEND to be reasonable. It's their usual game of dragging the center so far right you can barely recognize it. And if they thought it was so wrong, why is it there to begin with? I don't appreciate being treated like chattel. And if someone drugged your mother, sister, daughter and raped- YES, RAPED- them-you wouldn't have a problem with that, as long as it wasn't "forced", on a drugged, incapacitated woman? Such compassion- thanks again.
The Grand Oligarchy Party needs to quit this anti-woman crap and do their freaking job.

Yeah, just in the future. What we need in this country in order to make republicans thrive is an end to the criminalization of rape.

Remember, abortion is not at all a "violent act." A large human being dismembering a small one with tools is as non-violent as an act can be. A large human being scraping a small one apart bit-by-bit is an act of complete and total pacifism. As a matter of fact, if Gandhi were alive today, he would switch from being passively resisting British rule to being an abortionist. That's how non-violent abortion is!

Of course a man would say this as we must keep our women bare foot and pregant. Go back to your cave! Try taking care of the children that are right here right now. Once they are born the right wing christians want to give them no help. They starve them, make them have an unwanted baby by involving themselves in her womb. They want to privatize pubic education so they will have no place to go but religious schools offering a second class education. They want to cut all programs that will help that child succeed in life. They want the poor to have babies because when woman are desparate enough they will turn to the church for help. There you go instant christian. Read your history ladies! Women wake up. This is your body, your life. Where are your vocies. Why aren't you shouting from the roof tops. The rights for women we fought so hard to win seems to be taken for granted by this younger generation. Ladies speak up. Write you politicians! Do you even know what is happening to your sisters out there. Oklahoma women unite.

So, here's what I don't get.

A few years ago a local newspaper (I'm pretty sure it De Telegraaf) did an article showing the rates of teen-aged sex in The Netherlands, America and Japan.   In all three nations the portion of teenagers having sex is roughly the same (and remarkably constant over time).

The article then showed the number of teen-aged births in the same three nations, adjusted by population size.  Holland and Japan had similar results, but America was off the charts with the high number of teen-aged pregnancies, leaving the other two nations far behind.

Then the article showed the number of abortions in the same three nations.  Again, America was proportionally much higher, and especially for teen-aged girls.

Why the difference?  I can't speak for Japan, but here in NL our kids are taught sex education and provided with easy access to prophylactics.   Indeed, Dutch folk tend to be far more adult-like in their view of sex, and not obsessively prudish, like too many Americans.

So, if the goal is to reduce the number of abortions, American conservatives who also want to limit access to sex education and prophylactic methods of contraception are going about it in the most counter-productive way I can imagine.

Sex just is.  Once people can get over their hang-ups over it, maybe America can finally employ rational solutions that protect the right to choose while forcing fewer women into situations where abortion is the only solution.

If the "buyer's remorse" that was predicted hasn't started yet, now is a good time. The republicans have never cared about equality for women, and victimization of women, and reproductive rights-especially when pregnancy occurs as a result of rape or incest, is a good place to show women where their second class citizenship begins. Having pretty kewpie dolls to spout their positions, like Palin, Bachman, Malkin and Coulter must make them smug in their power.
07:10 AM on 02/03/2011
Would someone tell me what happened to the new Republican mantra of JOBS? Have they done one thing to create a job yet here in America? All they want to do is put government employees out of jobs. They are a "jobs killing" bunch of nuts. They have spent all of their time trying to remove our freedoms and rights that don't conform to their religious beliefs.

The Right's campaign against sex education, contraceptives, HIV education, and trying to legislate the moment of conception in order to redefine abortion as murder has for years been part of the Right's agenda to undermine the Reproductive Rights we worked for so many years to gain. These two bills are another very insidious step in their campaign to disenfranchise us.
If Planned Parenthood were free to do the job we are supposed to instead of spending all of our money fighting the Right, think of the huge numbers of abortions which could have been avoided over the last three decades.

Odd isn't it, how when it comes to this all that rhetoric about reducing the role of government in our lives goes right out the window for Cons. Same thing for 'activist judges' considering they've been trying to overturn, or pull an end run on the SCOTUS decision on Roe vs Wade for decades.

But then, what are we supposed to expect from people who espouse that the rules written by bronze age barbarians are supposedly worthwhile for our modern society.
