I wonder how victims of drug rape and incest must feel reading this. As far as the GOP are concerned, they might as well not exist.

the sad part is, that for the gop they do exist--as valuable commodities that can be traded upon to make political points, and as chattel to be used and discarded when no longer useful, oh, and as servants, both in the home, and in the bedroom. if i used the words i really wanted to, they'd 'moderate' me out.

Your point, the majority are baggers and they and the dems are dead wrong. This is based on religion and that is against our constituion. All objections to abortion are theocratic in nature therefor they are not allowed.

Of course you are completely wrong when you claim "All objections to abortion are theocratic in nature therefor they are not allowed." Assuming they are all theocratic objections, why are religious based policies allowed?

Of course. Actually, all males are human beings, even rapists. And most men are not rapists, even if most women (at least myself and all women I know) have been or will be raped. I was being ironicaly hyperbolic, and purposely gender neutral to make a point: if saying no can't work, then the only thing left is universal birth control, since we can never know who will or will not be a rapist. Farce.

Wasserman Schultz is right. It is an attack and on another front, there is another kind of attack:

"The rightwing smear machine that took down Shirley Sherrod, Van Jones and ACORN is at it again. This time they are going after Planned Parenthood.

The nation's largest provider of health care to low-income women is facing one of the most deceitful and potentially corrosive attacks in its history. If we don't stand up and fiercely defend Planned Parenthood, the radical right could finally achieve its wish of defunding family planning services and reproductive health care for women.

Tell Democrats in Congress and President Obama: Don't let the rightwing do to Planned Parenthood what they did to Shirley Sherrod.

After a series of suspicious visits by individuals claiming to be sex traffickers, Planned Parenthood reported to Attorney General Eric Holder on what appeared to be an illegal undercover video operation targeting 12 of its clinics nationwide. It sought an FBI probe of those involved and any possible violations of interstate sex trafficking laws by the suspicious infiltrators."

We let the ERA expire. We allowed the flame of feminism to practically burn out. It is time to re-light the torch of feminism, and pass it on to our daughters and sons. Yet another wake-up call. We cannot forever stand upon the shoulders of those who blazed the trail for us. We must be the shoulders for the next generation. In order for women to be protected under the constitution, we must have an Equal Rights Amendment. We were foolish to think that we were protected by the 14th amendment. Scalia's old world chauvenism is a timely reminder that we declared vicory before the battle was won. Time to get back into the trenches and finish this thing up. Insist upon the passage of the ERA.

Well if being drugged doesn't count as against your will, perhaps all the men who vote for this bill could be drugged, anally raped, and then told that they must be secretly homosexual (and bottoms at that!) because they weren't forced into it. Disgusting.

Yep, that's my classy talking point for today. The GOP really brings out the best in me. Sigh.

Thanks...I have actually thought about that myself thinking that the Men who are writing this law have no idea what rape is like and maybe need to learn what women have to live with when it comes to rape. Maybe then there would be more empathy.

But then, they are so blinded by there self righteousness I don't know if they could ever have room for empathy.

This is the sort of over the top hyperbolic rhetoric which both equates true violence with politics and vilifies her opponents. Since these Republicans are committing a criminal "violent act against women." shouldn't force be used to stop this crime?

It is a violent and dispicable act to villianize the victim again. Also the legal ramifications could basically take away a womens right to justice.

The argument is over when a woman can have her abortion paid for by the taxpayers. There is nothing which stops a woman from paying for her own abortion. Though I think this may go too far, it does not stop or prohibit abortion or a woman's right to have her attacker criminally prosecuted. So just how does this "villianize the victim"?

Honestly? Yes!
It IS a violent attack on women- it says to drugged rape victims that they weren't raped, and even after the drugs wear off, they STILL aren't allowed to defend their own bodies!
And if the GOP continues this, yeah, force may be necessary. I would literally be willing to take up arms against anyone who wants to force me to have my rapist's baby.

I've just realized something (not that it makes it any better). Does this fully redefine rape as far as the federal government is concerned (legally) or only in relation any form of help when pregnancy occurs?

I have never and will never understand the utter terror with which the far right seems to view women with free will. Women who enjoy sex. Women who are not subservient 'mothers' who stand behind their man at all times.

They seem to have no issues whatsoever expanding government by leaps and bounds into bedrooms and uteruses, but quail at it encroaching one inch into boardrooms and banks.
FAIL, GOP.

How does "smaller government" equate with federal control over a woman's gynacological decisions? The repubs are a religion unto themselves. Every act and philosophy is a contradiction.

I am steaming over this and other things, nothing against any specific religion, but this is what mixing church and state looks like, not only am I politically traumatized by having to live in a country that supports violence against women, but I am also deeply disturbed that churches would openly sponsor this, well heck look what they covered up. I want to sue, how can sue these people. Seriously. All of us women should band together to get a lawsuit against this or to stop it.

So you honestly feel that a victimized woman should have to pay for her own abortion? What if she is young or poor and doesn't have the money? Shouldn't we as a country take care of her because she was hurt and violated? We patch her up at the hospital, so why shouldn't we let her have an abortion as well?
05:03 PM on 02/04/2011
READ the post NAG I have no problem when she is raped. What part of "abortion is not birth controll" do you not understand? And the left believe they are the highly educated?
