This does not surprise me; he worked with Hedge Funds in China before he ran for office. So we here in the state of Pennsylvania voted to put him back in office anyway. Here is one vote he did not get!!

As a fellow Pennsylvanian; I agree. The race was so close but the TP won; we all must suffer for that now.

"Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) filed an amendment Tuesday evening that would require the U.S. government to prioritize paying bondholders over funding anything else -- including Social Security...."

The GOP is bound and determined to throw Social Security pensioners under a truck. It is the shining example of a New Deal program that works, and as long as it exists it shows that liberalism works. Nothing good has happened to the country since the rise of conservatism in the mid-1960s. Nothing. And what started this conservative rise? The Civil Rights and Voting Rights acts, which spread the liberalism to black people. The Dixiecrats fled to Nixon and then to Reagan, who appealed to their racism. Then "Third Way" Clinton opened the floodgates with NAFTA and the repeal of Glass-Steagall, which allowed the Wall Street robbers to scam investors and corporations to ship factories to sweatshop countries, while Bush lowered their taxes so they could keep all their ill-gotten gains. Meanwhile, Bush told Americans to "go shopping," and many did. Now most are in debt, while the GOP is trying to eliminate any safety net--even the one they've been investing in their whole working lives. But remember this--schools have also deteriorated since the conservatives came to power, which has dumbed down the population to the point that it believes the devil has its best interests at heart.

Very insightful. If it wasn't obvious before, as it was reported during Toomey's election campaign, it is now perfectly clear: One of his first proposals as a senator is to pay bondholders first at the expense of vital social programs and other entitlements, proof that he is both a water boy for Wall Street and a champion of Chinese capitalists. The man from Zionville, PA is a disgrace and Pennsylvanians who voted for him will be the ultimate losers.

What happens if you don't pay your credit cards, but go around spending money on entertainment and other discretionary purchases? Answer: Your credit rating gets destroyed, you incur late fees and penalty interest, and your creditors will sue you for wage garnishment in order to get their money. In the end, you will owe more money and you WILL pay.

Vote Republican! After all, what have you got to lose?
Unless of course, if you believe in a woman’s right to choose
And if you want guns, as a party, we’ll have your back
But if you want healthcare, well of that there will be a lack

We redefined rape; it’s no problem if you show us the bruise
For those wanting jobs, we know this is such great news
And for those seeking relief from all the economic pain
We want you to know that the rich are doing fine once again

And for the old worried about their Social and Medicare
We just want you to know that we’ll always be there
Trust us when we tell you that we’ll tell you know lies
You’ll be much better off after all entitlements are privatized

As usual he got it backwards, bond holders should be treated just as they were treated for the car company bail out. Does he think that a default on Social Security but not to bond holders would play any better than the other way around. The problem with Toomey like so many other politicians is he has no filtering software.

this is what you get when people vote with out thinking
the very same people who destroyed our economy

The auto bailout was dead wrong by every legal precedent. It never should have happened, and the bondholders should have liquidated the companies in order to be repaid.

Toomey is a right wing corporatist republican, therefore putting big investors profits before people should be of no surprize. Middle class does not count for a thing with Republicans only the 2%ers who are buying them elections and re-elections matter. We need to take the money Out of political campaigns!! But of course that would take the same senators and congress people who are the beneficiaries of the system to change it....don't hold you're breath anyone.

It's not you're mother Republicans hate its the social safety net in general and of course they have been working night and day for decades to dismantle everything in Roosevelt's New deal. Ahhh! But they do want to preserve one part of social safety nets Golden Parachutes for the billionaire CEOs and corporate welfare for oil companies and those who send American jobs to China.

Throw these corporatist bums out of DC and save American society from being raided by the corporatist republicans!

How bald and blatant about their priorities--only the rich guys--do Republicans have to be before voters throw them all out on their fannies?

Corporate republicans own the airways so Their message and only their message will Always be put out there a hundred times more than any other message. The only thing real American middle class and working class people can do is vote out every single republican in DC. Then point the finger at the Dems who aren't a whole lot better. But they do seem to give the working class a bigger bone to chew....not Much bigger but bigger.

When I read the headline, and before reading the article, I wondered if this would include bonds held by the SS Trust Fund. The article answered the question soon enough, and with the answer I would expect given that it is a Republican proposal.

If you don't put the bond holders first in line, then you risk being unable to sell enough bonds.
