Great story of someone that has a vision is willing to be BOLD and COURAGEOUS to stick with it. Turning down $100M is huge.

It does make me want to support PATH.

100million sounds huge but imagine if Zuckerberg had sold for 100million when Facebook was at the same stage that Path is at now? He would have sold himself short of billions.
05:24 PM on 02/03/2011
But he would have 100 million. Also, no one is actually going to pay billions for facebook, despite its valuation.

If their plans are longterm and they believe in their product, then it's a prudent financial decision.

Basing your business model for a consumer centered photo sharing site on a 30 year brand plan is not so prudent. They'll be replaced by some new site by the end of the month, and the photo sharing service class of site will be gone by the end of the decade. Some times you need to take the money and run.

They may fail tomorrow, but the article implied that it was some sort of rejection of big ol' Google. David and Goliath, Path refusing to be a sell-out. I think they just made a business decision based on their feeling of the product, which may indeed be a flawed opinion. Maybe they're just holding out for more...which could also be a mistake.

Bad move.  In 10 years, nobody will even remember this service.

Photo sharing?  I'm amazing Google couldn't whip up something around that idea in a weekend.  WTF are they doing with all those people they hire?

It's the brand Google is after. Not the actual technology.

Facebook's revenues total approximately 800 million. But what do they produce to earn that kind of money?
10:37 AM on 02/03/2011
Space for ads.

Well alrighty then. Morin Founder get a star. I'm so loving the "everyone and everything's not for sale" bit. Thought it was a relic but apparently not....Good for him and great for their company.

...why do republicans HATE America?...
10:24 AM on 02/03/2011
Because "we" have isolated ourselves into oblivion...that is why in my opinion you are starting to see an uptick of people leaving the burbs for the city...there is no culture, art or sense of community in 1500 more square feet than you actually need, a pool you hit 3 x's a year surrounded by like minded people....that is why anger is the vitamin of the day. It actually stimulates an id that is lost from being malnourished with hollow calories...
Hey I have an idea...let's all take a walk outside and breathe. Look others in the eyes and have the courage to say "what's up"...
I am a proud NON-MEMBER of facebook and every other social website...I have s*** to do and people to really share with...that's my take..just sayin

Oh Google, perhaps you should just forget becoming some sort of social networking behemoth and focus on what you're good at
09:31 AM on 02/03/2011
Google just looking to poach programmers. It just seems like companies are not very good at identifying talent...instead of going out there and looking for creative people who are EVERYWHERE they just want to take the easy route...Like a sports team that tries to build buy buying players from other teams. Does not always work like that people

This is the first I ever heard of Path. I like the way it is limited to 50 so it isn't a contest to see who gets the most "friends".
