Let's hope Kasich is capable of doing the right thing.

KWB got convicted of two felonies (just like is in all 50 States and in D.C) because she falsified federal, state, and government documents over a period of two years. She refused to acknowledge she did anything wrong, or make any kind of restitution to the school district, and gov entities that she scammed.

What she did is legal in the majority of Ohio school districts under Ohio's open enrollment law. And in fact she didn't cost the schools a single penny they wouldn't have been entitled to otherwise.

Except C-F does not have open enrollment.

i hope she and her attorney know this. that may tear up any case they have against her.

Okay, I read the article that you posted and it sounds like the school district wasted a lot of money stalking a woman and her family to prove a point. Her parents live in the district and if they were smart, would have signed over guardianship of the children to her father prior to enrolling.

It looks like they profiled her and then drove to the grandparents house to verify that she lived there? I wonder if they do that to EVERY new resident to verify accuracy.

It wasn't just her. They had over 40 familes that had kids enrolled improperly. I posted earleir the breakdown. It is not a Civil Rights issue per the US Dept of Education- KWB & her Dad already tried that. C-F is not an open enrollment school system.

waste is what they do best. if it wasn't so tragic, it might be funny.
visit www.perdaily.com. there are public school districts all over america splurging on archaic text books and sushi robots with kids crammed into crappy schools 40 kids a class, no field trips, poor nutrition, awful conditions and campus cop who want to bust their heads in.
we teachers could run far more successful schools with 1/2 the money the educrat run 'em into the ground with.

No she would have been praised for wanting to do the right thing for her children. This whole story just incenses me beyond belief. This is one of those times I wish I had unlimited funds so I could hire her a really great attorney to fight this all the way to the top. AND make the D.A. in Ohio who insisted on pressing the charges look like the fool he (or she) is.

She deserves some sort of fine, but not jail. It's kind of shocking to me because I know a few truancy officers whose job also includes kicking out kids who don't live in the district. Some of them have thrown out as much as 70 students in one year. Just kicking the kids out seems fine enough to me.

She had the option of simply taking her kids out, she chose not to do so. She chose to go to court. She got what she asked for.
03:47 PM on 02/09/2011
She signed over guardianship to her parents. The district over stepped its boundries once stacked out grandparents house. I hope she considers a discrimination suit and places the burden of proof on the district to prove they follow this same procedure for every new student enrollee.

Our country is jacked up! i retired from the USA so we could provide all children with the opportunity to go any school they chose to go to. Freedom of choice, religion, speech, etc, But our govt as usual has to earn some type of dollars off our FREE country right? the only stipulation is if you are a illegal national, than you get everything free. how would I know? when I was "retired" i couldn't qualify for any state agency health care because i earned "so much" while I was in the military getting my head blown off! I fought so "our citizens" could choose to go to any school of their choice and acquire the "education" that U.S. citizens should aspire to without having to go in debt! But since so little of us request our rights, our children are dropping out of school left and right! no wonder Asia is ahead of us, we're the idiots who make our future take out lones to get ahead.

And Loyd Blankfein, Donald Fuld, John Thain and all the other wall street gangster-parasites get to make off with all of our money.

Isn't it kind of insulting that they call it a justice system--That could give the people the idea that it has something to do with dispensing justice.

Their grandfather is paying taxes in that district. I doubt he has any more school-aged children in the house besides THEM. Why can't they go there?

Vouchers aren't needed in Ohio public schools.

Ohio has an open enrollment law that allows students to attend schools in other Ohio school districts tuition-free. This is seen as a way of strengthening good schools and taking the pressure off overburdened districts. State school funds follow the students, so most districts strive to lessen the number of students who leave because it costs them money.

Copley-Fairlawn CSD received additional state funds due to the two girls attending. There is no difference in their local funding because the grandfather's property tax is the same and property tax - unlike state educational funds - are not paid on a per student basis. The school district's claim of "lost funding" is false.

The reason a school district like Copley-Fairlawn CSD would refuse to participate in open enrollment is either to trap local students in substandard schools so that the district doesn't lose any state funds, or to keep undesirable students out of the district.

Thanks for the link. Minnesota now has open enrollment and overall, it doesn't sound like a great thing. In some areas, it's become a corruption issue when it comes to sports.

Yes, she got a felony for saying her daughters lived in the district her dad owns a home in. And yes, people do this all the time and don't usually meet with such punishment.
08:46 PM on 02/10/2011
Except she also told the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (in writing) that her daughters were living with her in her subsidized housing at the same time she told Copley-Fairlawn Schools (in writing) that her daughters lived with her father in Copley.

Falsifying government documents is a felony in Ohio, punishable with up to five years prison for each count.

She got off easy.
