All things merge into one and a river runs through

CDC has no business doing this anyway! They always put an anti-gun spin on their reports. Like the way they make child homicide look like it's rampant they include 21 year old people. If they have the money to do this kind of bull. Cut their budget!!

You're right! What's the big deal if 21-year-olds get killed with guns? It's not like there's a scarcity of them or anything!

Claiming a 21 year old as a child is the issue.

Conslusion does not equal spin. Even conclusions you have a hard time accepting.

Who's surprised by this? Raise your hands. C'mon, now. Nobody?

In our culture today, where the Foxes (deliberate cap) are in complete charge of the chicken coops, every regulation agency is run by the people that are supposed to be regulated. Why would the CDC be any different? After all, they decline to release reports on new drugs if their patrons at Big Pharma start grumbling about it.

Obama's words and actions are incongruent?

In a way that affects donors?

Just how shocking is that?

Hey Paul, if all you want biased studies, pay for them yourself. We won't stand for biased studies payed for with our tax money.

The Brady Center's influence continues to wane and it becomes more and more irrelevant to any issue that most people, let alone any politicians, actually care about. Eventually, it will expire because of a complete lack of interest. Faced with that, it is trying to drum up NRA - CDC conspiracy theories. Somehow I think we all have more important things to worry about.

By the way, if you were living in Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and all kinds of other places where there is no right to bear arms Mr. Helmke, do you still think it would be such a cool thing for the Brady Center's vision of an unarmed civilian population to be the reality? Just wondering.

Holy strawman, batman! The Brady Center isn't arguing for an "unarmed civilian population" or banning firearms outright. They are asking for regulations that help prevent gun violence. Try again.

name me one gun ban they were against...
07:33 AM on 03/12/2011
No, they're arguing for regulations that have no evidence of preventing gun violence. Even a CDC report came to that conclusion.

Can you show a law they've supported that was directed at criminals? Or only ones increasing penalties and restrictions on legal firearm owners? Take your time.

We just had a U. S. Marshall killed while serving a warrant on a local felon. The marshall was shot in the head by a weapon this felon should not have had.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of the article.
11:37 PM on 03/11/2011
The article was about over-stepping by the NRA, isn't it? Sounds pretty consistent to me.
10:23 PM on 03/11/2011
And naturally, you want to address that problem by stripping the firearm rights of people who aren't felons and have never shot anyone. Makes perfect sense.
11:38 PM on 03/11/2011
NO! Everyone should be packing heat to ensure the safety of everyone.

Maybe if the BC weren't shedding staff and lobbyists, they might actually have some influence.
09:52 PM on 03/11/2011
I suppose it will be harder to pretend that these studies are legit if some organization is picking apart the flaws as soon as it's released. They should let the CDC studies get mentioned a few times on CNN and MSNBC before letting the NRA get a chance to pick apart the lies.

How times have changed. Paul they used to confer with your side. Now they do not. Perhaps it's because NRA's fact checking might actually help CDC improve their studies so they are more spin free and scientifically transparent? How many times in the past has CDC suffered integrity crises because they didn't engage proper rigor in their review processes? Isn't what they are doing now closer to the meaning of "transparency" that President Obama would actually want? Oh boo hoo already.

Apparently the BC.VPC and CSGV are all in denial judging by what Helmke, Hennigan, Sugarmann and Horwitz are cranking out

You don't think that the increasing influence of the gun lobby on American social and legal policy is "significant"?
10:14 PM on 03/11/2011
And has that 'influence' caused an increase in firearm deaths?
10:19 PM on 03/11/2011

Great post. It is pretty evident that Paul's heart is just not in it any longer.
09:31 PM on 03/11/2011
Gun injuries are not a disease therefore the CDC should not be using taxpayer money to study them. However, that being said groups that represent certain industries are regularly called upon to lend expertise to such studies. WHAT - Do you think that the CDC is going to come to any other conclusion than "Guns are bad" just because they let the NRA participate in the study in some manner?

How else is the NRA supposed to put some positive spin on gun violence? If they wait til the CDC's findings hit the streets, it's already too late.

Considering the events of 2011 thus far, they must have already worn through a pair of taps.
09:07 PM on 03/11/2011
If the National Rifle Association is being granted the opportunity to influence firearms reports conducted by researchers for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), this practice must stop.

Any evidence of "influence"?....oh none I guess as I am sure you would have lead with that evidence if you had it. So what is the issue Paul? Pretty sure, like most BC and especially Paul's articles, it is only a "check the box" exercise so he can report to the BC board that "I was published" this month. One must at least be seen making the motions in order to be paid.

The NRA and Wayne LaPierre have a history of suppressing the truth. I would not put it past them to try to keep the facts from the American people. Just watch the 2009 Wayne LaPierre CPAC speach and you will see a man who is allergic to the truth.

As a group that supports extremists (think Rep King and his hate mongering), and government agencies losing track of guns they allowed to go into Mexico, I don't thing the Brady Campaign has any business telling the CDC how to run their studies.
