Best economy we had in the last 40 years occured in a time when we had taxes higher than we do now. Oh yah and we had regulation too so there was actually stability. Oh yah we saw the size of government shrink too. You know....when the Democratic President William Jefferson Clinton was President.

Have any of you READ what these riders actually are? These folks are very scary! They are even trying to take away funds for WH advisers that don't have to go through a confirmation process! Can you imagine them even bringing that up if there was a Republican in the WH?

So much gets lost while this 11th hour posturing & grandstanding goes on. Question: How could responsible people have let this come to pass, it's not like they didn't know that postponing budget work in lame-duck congress of last year would have consequences. The repubs. wanted a majority, well here we are and these fools have attached/attacked Planned Parenthood, NPR, ad nauseam, all the little additions to the "budget". Have delighted their $upporters with tax cut 2013 extension, are trying to destroy EPA and yet, grubby fingers reach out for their own farm subsidies & we're told we don't understand the big picture. That's the rub, you see we do get the overview but we're standing under the flock of pigeons who have just taken flight once again - NPR news = big threat, Murdock's worried = splat; Planned Parenthood, birth control = splat; EPA really upsets the progress of the steamroller path of the corporations, squeeze that dollar harder fellas & a big splat. H.e.l.l., we're so busy dodging it's hard to look up & keep track.
01:49 PM on 04/07/2011
In June 2010, Steny Hoyer (D MD) told The Hill publication they wouldn't be doing a budget for the year that started October 1, 2010.

Hard to believe; a fiscal crisis and they just deciced to not do a budget.

Can you do that? I know I can not.

That's why we are at this point, and they are doing their level best to close the government.

Get ready for the flood of ficticious claims that a filibuster was to blame. BTW, there are NO filibusters allowed in the House... the place where budgets are first to be passed.

the problem i have with this whole so called budget impasse is these thoroughly inept teabaggers mixed in with the bought and sold Republicans. the ryders they have attached to the budget bill has nothing to do with funding the country this is clear and simple on the peoples backs. payback to the Democrats from all these ideological tea-Republicans attachments like getting rid of planned parenthood Obama's health care,NPR heck did they look sane at the health care rally's screaming the Democrats down explaining the health care and ignoring what the Republicans had done. that should have been a clue to people.. but the people that voted them in were foolish and should have asked themselves where were they when Bush and the Republicans were taking the country down no where to be seen. and the budget isn't about what to cut anymore . the Democrats have compromised enough and Boehener and the Democrats had a preliminary agreement. but he is owned by the teabaggers and the tea-Republicans have gotten back in the hen house. and now once and for all want to get rid of all of the democratic programs or drown them in a bath tub where they are so small. they want all the payback from the right wing to turn this country into a religious right wing no union slave country where they will rule for a long time if not forever sound familiar.

F&F it's like liberals never even consider that taxes are a strong disincentive and people tend to respond rationally to them.

What period are you talking about? Please, try overlaying the USD/EUR exchange rate with crude per barrel and even you will be able to see a correlation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Weak dollar = higher oil prices

Strong dollar = lower oil prices

http://www.distressedvolatility.com/2009/03/us-dollar-and-crude-oil-both-sitting-at.html

So your assumption that "Speculators drove down prices based on expectations of reduced demand and the dollar collapsed as the banking crisis worsened, which drove oil prices down."

Is 100% inaccurate

Well yah he is wrong. What does the price of West Texas Crude have to do with the strength or weakness of the dollar. It's domestic oil and not affected by currency fluctuation. Oh and its just a fraction of overall oil consumption in our country.

Guy cmon you cant be that dumb. This is a chart comparing domestic oil prices with a weak dollar. What in the world does a dollars strength have to do with oil purchased domestically. Thats what West Texas Crude is....domestic oil. Its a fraction of the oil we consume and virtually irrelevant to the conversation.

Are all of you as sick of this crap as I am? This whole budget charade is getting tiresome, and dangerous. Boehner thinks he has the power to shut down government until he gets his way? Uh huh. And then thinks they can possibly win anything outside of dogcatcher next November? Uh huh. Keep on John, keep on. You talk a good game, but give away who you are when you say the you killed Planned Parenthood because government funding might have been used for abortion. Except, every expert in the country has said, in one form or another, that this simply is not true. Sick of the lies. Do your friggin jobs and make some jobs for us.

There is one reason and one reason only we have the debt we do and that is our military spending. If you aren't talking about gutting military spending you are not talking about balancing the budget and paying down debt. Period.

Actual funding for the troops is minor compared to what the contract employees are paid. How
much of the Pentagon budget is allocated to actual defense as opposed to overseas operations
that protect and improve the lives of foreigners in foreign lands while neglecting our citizens and
our needs at home. The MIC gets a blank check that we have to cash with shared sacrifice by
the working class alone.
