It certainly didn't help that the majority of the coverage over the shutdown was concerned with who would be the political "winner" and "loser" in the event of a shutdown. They addressed some impacts that the shutdown would have had (soldier pay, parks & museums being closed) but there really wasn't a human face put on the consequences of all this. There have still been impacts felt by a lot of people even though the shutdown was avoided, and yet we keep hearing about all this as though it was Yankees/Red Sox instead of power plays over things that affect the daily lives of millions of people.

So long as the talking heads on TV frame these things as an ongoing competition between two parties, the public will fail to understand just what is at stake. Which, really, is probably the whole point. Get us rooting from the sidelines with our popcorn and we'll forget this isn't reality TV.

Go to senate.gov and house.gov for yourcongresspersons' phone numbers and email addresses, then call them and demand that they keep you, the constituent, informed. Get your neighbors to do the same.

Agreed...I will call mine today....hope the rest of Oregon will too. The fair way to fix the deficit is for an across the board cut to all, including defense..I am tired of this cherry picking based on philosophies
