Where in this law is the provision stating that the data collectors have to pay you if they use your information, or sell it to someone else for a profit. There has to be more to this, perhaps information trading is so lucrative that tax revenues may be the purpose of this law. Data mining made legal,

They don't say you have the right to refuse, you just get to know why they are gathering data on you...what's next....a stamp on your forehead, or a mark on your hand? Maybe an invisible bar code that can be read like the registration on your car?

I can see it now, you get pulled over for a traffic violation and the officer just reads your bar code with his name your price gun, and instantly the world knows you're a speeder.

Looks like the next phase of the Patriot Act.

If they want to protect privacy for all Americans, how about SCRAPPING THE PATRIOT ACT?

I am assuming they are referring to a man's privacy only. They seem to think its perfectly fine to delve into a woman's privacy when it comes to her gynecological health issues.

While I agree with the concept wholeheartedly (natch!) I find myself suspecting this particular bill based on who is proposing it. I mean really, these two? I smell a political stunt.....

So "private lawsuits based on this law would be prohibited"

Why can't we sue people who vioIate our rights?

I'm going to make a wild guess..... it doesn't include credit card companies... because McCain has to get his little check from them.

Why not repeal the Patriot Act?

This is a diversion to make us forget about our federal government's snooping.

McCain is back on his meds. But he'll be off again when it's time to vote.
