IGNORANCE has used up its quota of TOLERANCE
05:25 PM on 04/29/2011
This is the on going battle of conservatives to attempt to control. More than patriarchal. Conservatives wrap themselves in liberty while they attempt to impose a narrow mind belief system on the rest of us. Change frightens conservatives, they cling to beliefs that limit their own personal evolution. Our personal evolution as human beings terrifies them because they know a truly free individual can not be oppressed.
07:26 PM on 04/29/2011
If change frightens conservatives why don't they support abortion "rights" since that is the status quo? The reason is because they hold the right to life of a human above the right to avoid inconvenience.

The true travesty about this is that most people don't, can't or won't look at the bigger picture in all of this. This has less to do with abortion than it does setting back the advancements of women. There is no easier way to remove a significant number of women from colleges and careers than through denied access to safe and affordable reproductive options. This "war" might be wrapped up in the abortion blanket, which is how the right wing ideologues corral and entice women to fight for their cause, but it is not the end of abortion that is the ultimate goal. Ideally, they want to ensure that women become less competitive in the academic and business world, and instead return to their former roles as wives and mothers. The presence of women in the academic and professional world has changed, and will continue to change, the landscape of both arenas. Women, in the meantime, are told they have a "choice", but what they really mean is, you have a choice to either not get pregnant, and if you make the choice TO get pregnant/stay pregnant, you will then have the choice of turning your infant over to the state, or watch them starve, since ironically, they are cutting WIC funds while they push to create obstacles for women seeking reproductive care (including abortion).

Wait until the crap going on now in the Middle East blows over - it' back to the bee-keeper suits, legitimate beatings, stonings and Genital Mutilation. The women of the Middle east CANNOT win. Either they have symbolic rights with dictators, or tribal oppression by their own species.
Tragic.

What is so terrible about that whole situation is the lost human potential of that region. Rather than include and enhance the progression of women, a misogynistic undertone steals the freedoms and rights of women, while simultaneously hindering progress of the entire community through archaic cultural ideals and unwarranted faith in patriarchal/theocratic control. What's worse, is our government will sit idly by, with no word of "human rights violations", much like they do while they trade with China despite a true gender-based process of selective birth and systematic neglect/murder/abortion/enslavement of young girls. I would like to believe that one day these poor souls will rise up in contempt and defiance, but after centuries of brainwashing and theocratic law, it is very unlikely.

Might I suggest that someone do an autopsy on the brains of Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins after they die . There is bound to be something there that allows these women to be comfortable in a caucus surrounded by all those Republican men in the Senate . Think of it for a minute ! They are in the same caucus with Mitch McConnell, John Vitter, Rand Paul , Jeff Sessions , James Inhofe, and Jon Kyl. How they must hate to attend those things . If these guys say the things they do in public , could you imagine what they say to them in private ?

Is it my imagination or does it seem that Republican politicians are overly concerned with womens reproductive organs? They are afraid to say the word "vagina" but they sure think and talk about it a lot. Is this a control issue, on their part, or a religious issue, or both. This country would be better served if Republican politicians, Federal and State, would pay more attention to creating jobs then restricting a womens right to choose.
07:29 PM on 04/29/2011
They could care less about their vaginas. It's the wholesale murder of defenseless children they care about.

There is no murder of defenseless children with an abortion. And if the repubs care so much about children, then why do they want to get rid of social programs that actually help to feed and educate the ones that are already born?

The only time they care about children is before they are born. After they take that "breath of life" they don't care what happens to them. Abortion is not a crime in the Bible! Genesis 2:7, Job33:4, Ezekiel 37:5 & 6, Exodus 21:22. When Republicans and Conservative Christians actually practice the teachings of Jesus they might acquire some credibility as caring about "defenseless children". When you vote against family planning, birth control, health care for children, head start, food programs for children, and a womens right to choose you can't consider yourself the protector of defenseless children.

They have Uterus Envy. It's why so many of their priests wear dresses. To symbollically coopt a woman's power to create. They can't really do it themselves so they have to control us to make that wish a reality.

I often wonder what it must be like for a Republican woman or a woman who is the wife of a Republican man . Someone like Cindy McCain , for instance. How does a woman suffer through a miserable life like that ? Having to listen to and watch her husband do his work to undo all the things you have spent a lifetime trying to obtain and preserve for your daughter. A system of good quality health care and support for her as she faces the common tribulations of life in just being a woman in a world dominated by the sexism of men . If I were a woman , I simply could not and would not tolerate such behavior in my presence. I guess these Republican women are such supplicants to their men that it makes such an existence a tolerable one . But they sure must shed a lot of quiet tears at night after tucking in their daughters and kissing them goodnight .

I have a pretty good idea. At a bad point in my life, I got involved with a conservative man though I didn't know HOW conservative until it was too late. He dictated how I could and could not dress. He freaked if I didn't wear a bra (even though, sad to say, I really don't need one if you get my drift), when I asked him to spend less time with the guys and more with our children, he'd say "this is how my dad treated my mother and it was good enough for them" and the classic "my way or the highway" - literally said that, often. I had a high risk pregnancy with our daughter, one that required I be on bedrest most of the time because every few weeks I'd hemorrhage and have to go to the ER. Too bad for me if he was on the golf course because his cell would be turned off. I don't even know how many times I had to scramble to find someone to drive me to the hospital because he was off doing his manly men stuff and was unavailable.

It was pure, unadulterated h**l.

Needless to say, we're no longer together.

Sidenote: the mother who put up with his dad's bs for 50 year? She FINALLY got fed up too and booted him out. The divorce was final 3 weeks ago. I say bully for her! 'Bout time these neanderthals realize we are NOT their property!

"Politicians who fail to heed the message will have a steep price to pay in 2012". This male hopes that you are right but I have hoped for such payments too many times in the past. What makes me extra cautious is the huge role that women played in the passage of the idiotic 18th amendment of our constitution.
