Is there REALLY any cause for celebration? No man lives forever, and aside from vengeance, what does this change? Are we now free to leave Afghanistan, since that is why we went there to begin with? If it is, THEN it is cause for celebration. Can we now go through airport security checks without being scanned or can we keep our shoes on? NO.

And, instead of letting nature take its course, we allegedly _killed him, made a martyr for the _terrorists to rally around, just like Che Guevara.

Is the world safer now as a result of his _death? Hardly. Whether he actually has been deceased for years or was taken out yesterday is irrelevant. He won the psychological _warfare.

He forced us to change our way of life, how we travel, how we allowed our privacy to be invaded; how it affected our finances, the lives lost overseas, and not just us, but ALL the G20 nations. We can NEVER be sure whether they've all been defeated; it will take just one _suicidebomber to tell us it isn't over.

So, please, tell me what there is to celebrate?
10:17 AM on 05/02/2011
It IS a day to celebrate. But a small victory in an ongoing battle.

Bin Laden was nothing more than the team mascot.

The people who fund, support, operate, and more importantly the man who actually runs Al Qaeda are all still out there.
11:18 AM on 05/02/2011
Marky, you are so right. Those who hate the U.S. and what we stand for are still out there. Let us not forget that we are still hated by many groups around the world and even a few here in our own country. Too many here in this country would rather spread their vile and contempt against OUR president than to support him on anything. The DISLOYAL opposition party is more concerned with attacking the President and unseating him than working for the good of the country. I served this country in the Air Corps under Democratic and Republican presidents and not once did I question their leadership. Wheter one is in one party of the other, if our President fails, then we all fail. Had McCain been elected, I would have supported him just as wholehartedly as I now support Obama.

this is laughable...and just as transparent as 9/11 was. he's been dead for years, and to associate him with 9/11 is even more laughable! not even the FBI wanted him for 9/11. why? well, the FBI said it was because there was not enough evidence. we are being played once again.

Having lived in various locations around the world I am fascinated by the notion that Pakistan's police and security forces were unaware of Bin Laden's location.

Every place I lived in, everyone in the neighborhood knew me by sight. They knew when I had arrived in the area and were aware of who I knew and dealt with on a regular basis. I was a topic of conversation among the local busybodies and gosips.

Anywhere a newly built compound is occupied all the local tongues would wag incessantly about who built it and who lives in it. The food being delivered and the visitors would be analyzed at length by the locals and the constabulary would make a point of dropping by to introduce themselves and to inquire into any services they could offer and any money to be made.

Since there was a massive reward offered for Osama's location I am sure his image was openly published and available to anyone curious about the strangers in the neighborhood.

It was a good idea not to inform the Pakistani security apparatus of the raid. No need to attack an empty and posibly boobytrapped compound. They would have immediately given Osama a head's up if they had known of a planned raid.

Yeah, of all the questions that are being asked about this situation in the comment thread here, yours is the only one that actually is relevant.

Rather than dwelling on whether bin Laden is with Elvis or J. Edgar Hoover, we should be asking wtf Pakistan was up to. Obama touched on that in his speech when he said he talked to the president of Pakistan. It was subtextual, but there was definitely a word in there about how this was Not Cool and we'd really like it if they'd do something more than allowing our mortal enemies to set up camp next to their military academies. Just saying.

It is suspicious that the US with all its resources couldn´t find him a lot sooner. I don´t buy the inside job conspiracy theories, but I guess Osama was just more useful to some people free than captured or killed.

IT DID NOT TAKE 10 Years to get him.

It took LESS THAN THREE!

The Shrub STOPPED hunting for him not long after 911.

Do you ever tire of your BDS? I think the American Horticultural Scoiety needs to look into the basis of your unreasoned attacks on vegetation. What are you trying to hide under that shallow root system? No doubt, you have pictures of Mr. Obama in blue tights and a red cape flying over to Pakistan and shooting Bin Laden all by himself...

Let's see the pictures. Many of us have believed he's been deceased for years, from his health issues. And look where they allegedly found him, in Islamabad at a multimillion dollar compound, not in some cave in Tora Bora or in the tribal region in NW Pakistan.

Which means, if this IS true, he had tacit support from Pakistan, the financiers who bankrolled him, and freedom of movement from the government of Afghanistan.

So, if anyone thinks this is over, it's not; as long as poverty exists, as long as the wealthy nations oppress these people, they will have fertile recruiting grounds. I'm not sure, other than vengeance, why there is cause to celebrate. He martyred himself, and could be a more powerful figure to rally around. The world is not safer because of this, folks.

It was several years before Bin Laden made it to the FBI's most wanted list. Something to do with no evidence for involvement in 9/11. All we had as evidence was the made up stuff that Bush used to start wars. That along with fake CIA videos of Bin Laden being congratulated for 9/11. The whole thing smelled of treason then and does to this day. Bin Laden never did take credit for 9/11, he always claimed the opposite. Just one more reason they had to kill him.

Maybe not him in person but his family had many business ties to the Bush crime organiztion. Bush the elder worked for their corporation, the younger was a business partner of Osama's older sibling who backed GW in his first childish steps into the exciting world of bankruptcy.
