Since when was Liberal a bad word?
06:22 PM on 05/03/2011
It's sad that our Congress praises the heroes who helped clear the wreckage of the WTC and in return require them to have background checks by the FBI to "make sure they're not terrorists" so they can get health care. That is a giant slap in the face not only to the 9/11 First Responders, but to all Americans.

In addition to your comments. I think it is sickening that Guliani was put on a pedistal by the GOP for his great handling of the events that followed 911. He failed in so many aspects it's not even funny. Our government failed us on 911 and only one political figure had the fortitude to say those words.

Could King survive a background check by the FBI to "make sure he's not a terrorists enabler" ?

It's fun watching these Conservatives twist themselves into a pretzel to keep from admitting that Democratic President Obama is the "Commander and Chief" that GOT the worlds number one murdering terrorist enemy...and I might add, he did it within 18 months of his first term in office...Bin Laden was located and just 6 months later of careful intense focus and planning with our most elite special Navy Seal forces, the Commander and Chief and our great military that HE commands, sent the monster to hell.

Sorry King, no matter how you try to spin it, Bush didn't get Bin Laden for 7 of the years he was in office....Obama did get Bin Laden in his first two years in office. END of STORY.

All King and these other Conservative who refuse to acknowledge the facts and who are pathetically attempting to rewrite history are doing is making themselves look very very small.

So now that OBL is dead (according to conspiracy gov) so that does NOT mean that terrorists will go away.

Those folks live to die over 4,000 years so one person is supposedly gone will make them go away?

We are fighting wars to protect trade routes for global corporations who are robbing of our natural resources and who are making record profits because of cheap labor cost. While they’re shipping our job’s to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Viet Nam, China, Korea, and India where they earn 25 cents an hour or less. They have massive poverty among the working class in these countries. We actually pay these global corporations to outsource American jobs with taxpayer funds. This is disgraceful by our federal politicians who don't care about the American Public.

I wonder if OBL knew exactly who got him, must have been very upsetting for him especially as he ducked behind some bird for protection.

it is sickening that this damn bill requires a 9/11 responder to produce documents showing they are not terrorists...how insane is this country. Seriously - a terrorist would hang around for years being sick to get money from this group. This is an insult...maybe they should ask every police, fireperson, medic, etc. to produce pre-terror attack if they are a terrorist before they try to save the life of a congressperson...

In George Orwell’s book Nineteen Eighty-Four, the fundamental basis for the totalitarian state that he portrays is the fear and hatred of the foreign enemy, Oceania. A siege mentality, brought about by endless war.

I hope that the death of Osama Bin Laden will mean the death of the siege mentality. The end of the perceived need for foreign occupations, and the end of foreign occupations.

I hope for peace.

The representative who added the rider to the bill, requiring the first responders to be checked for terrorism ties before they can be eligible for help, is a morally decrepit corporate pawn: Cliff Stearns, from Central Florida, and judging from his record, it does not appear that he has ever voted for the interests of the real people from his district (me included).
He is a disgrace.

Lets be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American soldier, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found Osama Bin Laden and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!

Did Bush go and fight personally in Iraq - no! He did not even serve in the military! He dodged the draft! This was a campaign promise that candidate Obama made - to bring Bin Laden to justice! And he showed the persistence and tenacity to get it done! Got it!

While I am pleased that OBL has been removed from life on this planet I believe all the celebration is not only distasteful but premature. There are roughly 130 days until the 10th anniversary of the twin towers, pentagon, and PA disasters. That gives OBL's followers over 4 months to prepare not only for the anniversary but their revenge as well. What bigger statement then to do it on the 10th anniversary? He was but one man with thousands of deranged followers. Rather that breathing a sigh of relief, New Yorkers and all Americans should be holding their breath.

with respect to the continued suffering and loss of the victims of the 9/11/01 attacks and their families,   I refuse to hold my breathe.   I refuse to be afraid.

I know i will die.    It's on'y a question of timing and method.    I will not live what ever time i have left  "watching what i say,  what i do"   like Ari Fleischer,  Pres. Bush's press secretary warned me to do.  Instead, it's the likes of Osama Bin Laden and his crowd that better look over their shoulders, worry about their safety ...  American resolve has been re-established.   One bad guy gone.

So, with respect to the feelings that you share in the post,  no,   I'm going to live without fear of Al Quada ..... and look both ways before i cross the street too.

We can't let fear of reprisals shape our foreign policy.. on the other hand the illegal invasion of iraq and the continuing war in afganistan isn't going to make us any friends in that region.. time to claim victory and go home...

I know, I went to see my neighbors name on "The Wall". My brother was Special Forces Green Beret Army. The whole year I was glued to the TV, and wrote him EVERYDAY...
I still remember his service #. I am 10 years younger than him and the experience was seared in my brain. The Athletic of the Year in my other brother's class lost both his legs at the thigh. I hang with a bunch of Vietnam Vets and I still see the pain in their eyes.
I used to make fun of my mother on occasion when she would jump high enough to touch the ceiling when a car door closed. Payback is a b itch now.
Sounds like you are a Veteran, Thank you for your service......((hugs))
