CNN's blog on this story is riddled with anti-female haters straight from the dictator motherland posting the most vile comments against women. No wonder this woman is terrified.

I'd take the fastest train outta there asap! Libyan thugs are vile and ruthless. Glad to see one woman escaping this torture camp. Pray for the remaining women. These thugs r@pe women randomly just to make a point.

I understand every woman wanting out of there. They do deserve better.

Does she have a sponsor here?

Why is it that although every country appears to have a large majority of people who hate us, they elect to come here when the going gets tough?

Probably so that they can sign up for social security, section 8 housing and food stamps.

These immigrants seem to receive help from our social programs more quickly than the ones who have contributed to the various programs.

The posts from American men are no better...Sad world we live in! I wish her well, and admire her for speaking up.

Great for her, she will finally be protected in the United States.
07:59 PM on 06/05/2011
it was the right thing to do but to fly her out with tax payer money was not the right thing to do. if her story turns out to be true, we should take some of the frozen assets of gadaffi and pay for the the trip, the medical and give her enough money to get well and travel back to her home country. you always hear about assets being frozen but you never hear of the end result of when the money goes when it THAWS OUT

After all this poor woman has endured, I sincerely hope she gets treatment and a new life here. Thank goodness something positive is finally happening for her.
07:45 PM on 06/05/2011
explain to me again why we want her here?
09:52 PM on 06/05/2011
because she's strong and brave and educated and courageous all of which are attributes that our country was founded on. She is a survivor and a fighter and believes in America and the compassion of Americans. Are you saying she is wrong?

You could always leave!!!!
07:45 PM on 06/05/2011
I'm glad she's able to leave and while I welcome her to the US, I have to wonder how she's going to live once she's here. We've got very few jobs, record unemployment and a broken medical system. She does not speak the language and is not independently wealthy. I'm not saying there's something wrong about her coming here and who wouldn't be happy she's going to be safe but her life and basic needs don't magically stop once she steps on US soil. The difficulties are numerous and to think that this is all she needed is short sighted.

08:06 PM on 06/05/2011
I think she is probably staying with someone. If she stays there she'll be put in prison best case.
10:04 PM on 06/05/2011
Again, I am glad she's coming and welcome her here - I don't have a problem with her getting some kind of help through social services but those moneys aren't enough to really live on adequately. However, we have record unemployment and she doesn't speak the language - if I were her and if I had a choice, I'd choose Sweden or Iceland and really have a chance at a great life..

To think most of our ancestors came here with nothing and many did not speak the language.
10:05 PM on 06/05/2011
I came here and didn't speak the language. I came at a time when I could get a job, that time is different now.

Excellent why don't you call up the U.S. State Department today and inform them that you will cover her housing, medical, food and legal costs for life.

I rarely ever support outside U.S. interference, but in this particular case which is absolutely despicable I am happy she will receive assistance and safety. I hope these animals do not retaliate against her family.

There is something special about this situation... The U.S. was the only country who offered to take her... Mind you the UK and many other EU countries are much more accepting of refugees.

Marwa al-Obeidi told The Associated Press that a human rights group aided by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arranged for Iman and their father to travel in a private plane to Washington, D.C. by way of Malta and Austria.

Whats not mentioned and is probably highly likely is that the U.S. is footing the bill for the private flight by private jet.

If the USA is paying for the flight then Mrs. Clinton would have arranged it because of the danger to the women. If that is the case then I don't mind my tax money helping her to get to the United States.

Well in this case you would be paying less than a fraction of a penny but the cost for a private jet from Libya plus any lodging and food is much more than you or most Americans make before taxes in an entire year.

There is a good chance that the flight was paid for by someone that had the plane and the money.

Not likely... This woman is a Libyan citizen and has no passport as such a personal flight is out of the question... She likely flew in a U.S. State Department jet that is used to ferry diplomats.
