Who is going to pay for the drug tests? Tax Payers! So when most people pass the tests, and they will, what then? Pretty big waste of cash in the end....
04:05 PM on 06/06/2011
Or if they fail a test and more specific/expensive conformation test are given. If a false positive result(other meds, disease process and foods sometimes cause) is found imagine the legal expenses as people fight for their jobs.
04:31 PM on 06/06/2011
The bill requires that applicants pay for the tests themselves. Those who pass the tests, however, do not have those expenses reimbursed. Taxpayers will be on the hook for the costs of implementation, which has not been estimated. Taxpayers will also be on the hook for who knows how much in Florida's ultimately futile effort to defend this travesty in court.

What's next Rick, selections of elderly and indigent for "the camps"? Hey Florida, if you elect someone like this guy to be Governor, then expect the worse.

Fine with me. But when it comes out that the State spent more money doing all the drug testing than it saved by kicking off all the drug users and the ensuing lawsuits he has to be the one to announce that he wasted taxpayer money.

It will be patient pays, then is "refunded" if they pass. Therefore Solantec has not directly done business with the State! This is all its about.

Hmm, someone said above, they do not get reimbursed. So, how is someone applying for welfare/medicaid supposed to pay? If the state covers it, how do they? The person has no medicaid??

If the person is paying it while receiving Government assistance, the money the person would be paying with would be coming from the Government anyway. Drug testing is rather expensive. Unless they go with the cheap kind and then its rather easy to fool. Sounds like a waste of time and resources to me.

There is no defense! This is a money scheme that he, personally, intends to benefit from. I have no objection to drug testing people anywhere if there is reason to do so, but I sincerely wish when these right wing people set up these barely obscured attempts to fleece people and to rob the poor of their benefits, they would be forced to do the same thing. Let them pay for their own private insurance, make them take a drug test prior to being sworn into office, exempt them from social security benefits after all, what's good for the goose......

The article says he wont be doing any contracts with Solantec to avoid conflict of interest, and that it actually is being sold.. and I am thinking.. yeah to who so that they THEN can do business with SolanteC!!

Yes she does threepoint, and he signed it over to her to take office, then started working on how to make it more profitable while in the position to do so. Naturally, he will assign the contract for the service.

Has Scott also proposed a comprehensive drug rehabilitation program? Assuming not, does he have a plan for the disposal of the remains of the people who will inevitably fall victim?

The Kings of Wall Street eviscerated this country and brought it to the financial brink by playing America like a casino, yet gleefully got $trillions in bailout WELFARE.

Why weren’t the likes of Lloyd "Doing-God’s-Work" Blankfein - the biggest, gaudiest Welfare Queens in US history - drug tested first?
03:17 PM on 06/06/2011
Excellent post gmb007. The answer, probably too much cocaine would should up in thier system from partying on tax payers dimes as well.

Mr. Scott hasn't proven probable cause and reasonable suspicion - therefore isn't this unlawful search and seizure.

He can't just go commandeer bodily fluids from citizens because they're poor and therefore he suspects them.

Stop flying. Only way to truly stop this is if people actually take a stand and stop flying. The airlines will step in and say they need to government to back off to get people flying again. Like always, money will solve the problem.

*if* this is such a good idea, then why not begin the mandatory testing with gov scott himself, followed by every member of the house of reps and state senate? they are all earning enough money and have the connections to potentially buy all the drugs they want... either street drugs or prescription medications.
.
i am more worried about accountability of elected officials and those who have the ability to influence legislation, than the folks who are out of a job due to no direct action of their own.

No, they do it by sitting at work not passing budgets, voting on stupid pointless mandates and laws while recieving kickbacks from major special interests. One is not morally superior to the other in anyway.

YAWN.

Yes, EVERY welfare recipient sits at home collecting "government cheese" and "watching Oprah".

Which is SOOO much easier than showing up to your job to vote "NO", based on bills that you've not read or gotten any credible knowledge on.

I don't think we have a recall statute down here. It was introduced as a bill a few years ago but Jeb Bush shot it down.
02:57 PM on 06/06/2011
Was Jeb afraid he may be recalled? Allowing public officials to sign on to a statture requiring accountability on their part is like asking an employee if he should be given a pink slip for poor performance.

Well garsh aren't we lucky that Scott has solved the great Mystery of Addiction Treatment. All we have to do is threaten addicts with some kind of negative consequence and they'll just stop. Or the poor taxpayer won't have to pay them and they'll not have any money and they'll just stop.
OH WAIT. Except no they won't because they can't. Not on their own. What happens? Dealing, stealing, mugging, dying in the streets and other terrible outcomes worse than not conforming to some delusion of self-made-manism embraced by people with all the advantages in the world.
Somewhere in this country, conservatives are going to run smack into reality and have to face how deluded they are. So OK you're totally awesome in every way, but y'know, not everyone is as amazing an evolutionary achievement as you are - there are some people who have problems or issues or just fell down. Face the alternatives, the whole world isn't just a matter of "I'm awesomer than you so you should just go die in a gutter somewhere".
