Boy oh boy.  This must be a conundrum to conservatives who love authoritarianism but detest interference with business.

Well, not only does the FBI have "new" search and seizure powers (warrant-less of course), but they are now just pulling website servers offline. What's next? What scares me is this? After the "Patriot" (doublespeak if ever there was) Act, what "new" powers could we be talking about. Oops, top secret, need to know only, and we don't need to know.
I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or move out of the Country! I'd like to go somewhere where there are civil rights, like maybe China or Singapore

This isn't new. It's been going on for quite some time. The Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control has long been able to block/ blacklist pretty much any website it wants--foreign or domestic, as long as the domain is registered here (most are)--without explanation or real recourse.

This inerwebs thing that the kids are into is really starting to look like a real threat to the power structure of the world, eh?
08:01 PM on 06/21/2011
Threat?! That depends on whether your still blind to the rampant corruption and greed in government and corps.

The internet was the medium in which millions of people organized rallies to overthrow their oppressive governments in the ME. I'd say the interwebs has it's positive sides.

Wow, snatch and grabs, what's next?  Geez, if its not on a computer, flash drive or other portable device when they raid your home they will just snatch up the racks of servers from your web host. Whatever is clever.  Wow, happening under Obama and not George Bush.

Bush was never the threat you guys made him out to be or cried wolf over. The 1st Amendment is 1st for a reason: it is THE most important fundamental guarantor against oppression. The biggest threat to freedom is from those who wish to undermine freedom of speech - ANY speech. And in the U.S. that comes from the thought police who try to limiti free speech by implementing speech codes and telling you what you are allowed to say and what not to say. Be it under the guise of anti-hate, or whatever, it will be abused to push agendas and weilded like a hammer by those who would abuse power to gain even more control and power.
