How encouraging to know that an actual democracy exists with a strong labor movement. Workers always have and always will need representation, because the best interests of employers and employees will always contradict one another. Employers want to get as much labor from their workforce for as little cost to them as possible, while employees want to get as much pay as possible for the least of amount of their time and effort.

"because the best interests of employers and employees will always contradict one another."
I strongly disagree.
Today's highly complex global economy cannot be reduced to simplistic classical Marxist dialectic.
Many companies successfully forge a symbiosis between various stakeholders in the capitalist ownership paradigm.
But certainly and informed union leadership and membership provides the best quarantine the balance between workers rights and ownership privileges is maintained.

Please! There's nothing simplistic about it. It's human nature. If you owned a business, wouldn't you want to get the most out of your workforce, for the least amount of payroll? And likewise, assuming you work for a company, wouldn't you prefer to keep your current salary, but have say, ten additional hours per week to spend with your family, or pursuing some other interest that is not work-related? I already know your honest answer.

My home state Florida has never been a pro-union state. When I started working nearly 40 years ago, my starting wage was $3.10. After the union showed up to organize in that starting year, my wage jumped to $6.50 the attempt failed; however my respect for unions have never ceased and I always thought we were wrong not to organize. I continue to this day to be a pro-union supporter.

Look at the bright side Florida is getting it's belly full of the GOP, neither Jeb, or Chris overreached like Heir Scott.

Even Ben Franklin acknowledged that if we didn't hang together, we'd surely hang separately. We need unions more than ever. Your average American worker has by now lost even the right to collect wages for all hours worked. How many of us don't work 50 hours or more for a 40-hour paycheck?
