Guys please help HuffPo in improving their standards. Off late they are reporting every nonsense as FACTS without even checking their own sources. Click on the "send corrections" link above and select "factual errors" from the dropdown menu and post the following.

Your story has factual errors. A speculation has been posted as fact. If one click on the link you have provided in the news above http://www.nation.co.ke/News/Al+Shabaab+samosa+ban+linked+to+symbol/-/1056/1207796/-/s7j97l/-/index.html It is clearly mentioned that
"No reasons were given for the bizarre move, announced by militants in vehicles mounted with loudspeakers.

However, residents of a south Mogadishu settlement and Afgoye, a town 30 kms south of the capital where the ban was imposed speculated that the Islamists may have associated the triangle-shaped snack with a symbol of Christianity that is not compatible with their strict version of Islam."

Also the BBC story (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14283502) report
"In a separate development, al-Shabab has banned the sale of beef and samosas in the famine-hit Lower Shabelle region.

It said traders were selling rotten meat from cattle that had died because of the famine. This was un-Islamic and threatened the health of people, al-Shabab said."

If you're trying to get in the way of the relentless propaganda spewing forth on behalf of their Z-peep handlers, then you're in serious danger of being rolled over by the massive stone wheels of their great Islamophobic Juggernaut of war and empire. Wait here, I'll get you a flower lei.

Common HuffPo, sorry AOL, I expected you guys read the source story of which you have provided the link. If one click on the link you have provided in the news above http://www.nation.co.ke/News/Al+Shabaab+samosa+ban+linked+to+symbol/-/1056/1207796/-/s7j97l/-/index.html It is clearly mentioned that "NO REASONS (my emphasis) were given for the bizarre move, announced by militants in vehicles mounted with loudspeakers.

However, residents of a south Mogadishu settlement and Afgoye, a town 30 kms south of the capital where the ban was imposed SPECULATED (my emphasis) that the Islamists may have associated the triangle-shaped snack with a symbol of Christianity that is not compatible with their strict version of Islam."

Also the BBC story (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14283502), as others here have provided the link says "In a separate development, al-Shabab has banned the sale of beef and samosas in the famine-hit Lower Shabelle region.

It said traders were selling rotten meat from cattle that had died because of the famine. This was un-Islamic and threatened the health of people, al-Shabab said."

I am sure you guys at HuffPo have some decency to accept the mistake and present FACTS then SPECULATIONS.

But wait! the reason given for the ban is rotten meat from dead animals and the triangular trinity thing is "speculation" as noted in the source of the story above and cleverly omitted from the posted story.

I'm a Muslim. You guys should know something, we probably hate extremists of Islam more than anyone in the world do. They took everything that was said in the Quran and magnified it to an unnecessary scale. Not just that, but they ruin our reputation in the society by taking these extreme measures.
That's what's going on in Iran for example, banning women from driving, every inch of a woman's body shouldn't be exposed etc. but in other countries all of this is just fine.

So please, when you look at these kinds of acts, don't blame the whole religion for this, after all religion is just a tool to deliver a moral standard for its believers.
11:24 PM on 07/30/2011
Why are more and more muslim countries shifting toward embrace of extremism?

Women in Turkey did not wear hijab even 10 years ago, now the nikba is prevelant.
We even are seeing more women here in my city wearing the full burka.

More of a political statement than being shifting towards extremism. The Islamophobia and the attack on women's liberty, specially other people who have nothing to do with burka or headscraves deciding what the Muslim women can and cannot wear.

I do "blame the whole religion for this" I just don't blame all of its adherents. The religion IS the problem. It is an ever-spurting fountain of silliness and idiocy. And no, I can't think of any other religion that is any better.
01:21 AM on 07/31/2011
Again, even in the Quran God said Religion is just a tool to deliver a standard of morals, what's right to do and what's wrong. How do you think we got here in the first place? Why you think its 'bad' to steal, cheat etc.? Who sets all these standards in the society? Religion is a tool, and it's a tool to help the lost to find a good way to be as good as he can be as a human.
But I know, you wouldn't even care a bit what a religious guy replied to you, hell, I'm not even that religious, but I look at all things in life, all religions, all beliefs, all contradictions and opinions, and choose what's best for me to be the best that i can be.
01:41 AM on 08/01/2011
But when the US gov't banned french fries from its cafeterias that was about Nationalism, not religion.

So you see, remove one ideology and the idiots will just run to another one.

Religion is a red herring.

They must really hate Doritos.

How can anyone ever suggest that these extreme Islamists can exist in a civilized, 20th century world? These people are throwbacks to the sixth century. If the Arab world does not want the west to do something about them, they should take care of it themselves. They should otherwise stop sheltering and excusing these crazies.

I was in Somalia many years ago and was appalled at conditions. Since then, Somalia has moved steadily forward into the 6th century. What can you expect? Frankly, I don't think the "west" or the "Arab world" can do very much other than attempt to alleviate some suffering and provide some general assistance. But don't give up. Remember that such divergent terms as algebra and admiral are from the Arabic. There's hope.

Most people check the facts before shooting straight. click on the link in the above article and it say "No reasons were given for the bizarre move, announced by militants in vehicles mounted with loudspeakers.

However, residents of a south Mogadishu settlement and Afgoye, a town 30 kms south of the capital where the ban was imposed speculated that the Islamists may have associated the triangle-shaped snack with a symbol of Christianity that is not compatible with their strict version of Islam."

and BBC here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14283502 reports that "In a separate development, al-Shabab has banned the sale of beef and samosas in the famine-hit Lower Shabelle region.

It said traders were selling rotten meat from cattle that had died because of the famine. This was un-Islamic and threatened the health of people, al-Shabab said."

In that case, the reason for banning the *meat* Samosas sounds more like it's for hygienic reasons, rather than some totalitarian "islamo-fascist" move, yes…?

Really, people jump to such wild conclusions. I'm not sure why this article points out (or invented?) the "christian trinity" connection, since that isn't remotely mentioned in any other article I've read on the topic.

This anti-Islamic phobia runs rampant… it's so easy to buy into this kind of narrative without questioning it.

Here's a simple comparison….. e-Coli shows up in a bunch of spinach, sickening thousands. The USDA immediately "bans" all sales of the stuff from the affected region, and launches an investigation.

In Somalia, Samosas (possibly tainted with rotten meat) is "banned" from sale and consumption…

How is that any different? Only the spin cycle…………..

What if you found that the ban was related to presence of rotten meat from dead animals in sampsa as reported by BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14283502 than with the the shape which is just a speculation as written in the story linked above?

That's deep and a helpful insight, Maybe the fact that these animals wage indiscriminate war using starvation as a weapon of mass destruction tips the scale just a bit? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/somalia/8655351/Famine-Al-Shabaab-backtracks-on-promise-to-allow-foreign-aid-workers-back-into-the-country.html

Since this is about food bizarre famine related behaviour of "rulers" we could throw in the Ethiopian government's plans towards lease of fertile land to foreign investors (for e.g. producing bio ethanol for gas). Ten of thousands of small peasants would be displaced.
