This is why we need to talk about a "jobs program" rather than "economic stimulus". Stimulus is about "process". Jobs are about "outcomes".

As we've seen, the economy can be thriving on paper and Wall Street can be souring, but employment will stay high and the standard of living and economic well being of the middle and working classes decline.

The economic forces of capital and labor are not always on the same side. Massaging capital does not necessarily mean any gains for labor. The capital markets clearly take care of themselves and their own interests. The government needs to be focusing on the labor and wage market -- increasing employment and raising wages by reducing income disparity -- even if "capital" doesn't like it. Unfortunately, "capital" has unlimited political power because of its control of the media and bottomless campaign contributions.
