Instead of enforcing federal laws, this administration continually acts based upon the ideology, beliefs, opinions and interests of the president and his like minded advisers and appointees.
The USA used to be a nation of laws. This president thinks the USA is a Monarchy and not a Republic. Therefore, he will enforce only those laws he feels are appropriate. His willingness to use the Department of Justice to oppose State Laws is an example of who/what we have allowed into the White House.

If the will of the American people is counter to the Constitution, he's doing the right thing.  That's something we'll have to figure out in court.

IF nad that's a very big IF. I agree that we'll have to let the coutrs figure it out. However, I find it hard to believe that the actions of Alabama in protecting itself from law-breakers by passing a law that allows the police to do their jobs w/o infringing upon anyone's rights is against the Constitution.

This is good. The more push back the government gets, the more they will be forced to start to do their job.

I have no doubt that there will be intense pressure from Obama and Hillary will continue her disinformation campaign by stirring things up with all of the Latin American governments so the waters will get muddy. Fortunately any blocked provisions of these laws will be headed to the Supreme court and we will get some much needed direction on states rights and the Feds duties.

If you are here illegally ,you should be made afraid to send you children to school,You and they are here illegally and should be deported, that is our law as of now and should be enforced or else why have laws? They dont enforce DOMA,They repeal DADT,The illegals will be able to use Obamacare after all after saying they wouldnt. We are being governed by a man that has circumveted congress to do what he FEELS is right, that is not how a nation of laws should be orperating.
10:32 AM on 08/24/2011
The rest of your drivel aside, what on earth do DOMA and DADT have to do with immigration?

Did the talking points they sent you just lump a bunch of D words together -- deportation, DOMA, DADT??

Let Alabama keep this law, watch their chicken factories go bankrupt and their farmers lose thier crops, and the state can contniue its inexorable slide into the swamp.

The DOMA and DADT references speak to the US Governments desire to enforce only those laws they like. If the Alabama chicken factories and farmers are depending on illegal labor, then they should fail. Oh wait, You're saying that illegals (law breakers) are ok as long as chicken factories and farmers need them. How about if a person breaks into your house, takes food out of your refridgerator and takes up residence on your sofa? How about if you have to pay for their childrens education, health insurance and subsistance? Is this all ok with you?

So, Illegal aleins might be afraid to send their kids to school at American taxpayer expense, good. The law makes it a ceime to transport or shelter illegal aliens, good. The feds getting involved by way of courts in what is a state matter, Bad.

Do you have a copy of the U.S. CONSTITUTION?

READ IT.

Or go online and find it and read it.

Borders are under FEDERAL jurisdiction, not state.

And if you don't know what federal means, look it up while you are at it, and consider fact checking before you post.

actually the constitution only confers the feds with rights to regulate naturalization and foreign trade. On the other hand the declaration of independence speaks to sovereign rights of states - including immigration.

Another example.of states trying to trump our constitution which gives federal jurisdiction to this matter. Not states. If you think feds are mishandling taxes you don't get to stop paying. Well just because you think the feds are not doing their job does not mean you get to make your own law. Obama has deported more illegal yuan any republican president EVER

But they are still coming in droves and until that changes ALL discussions surrounding illegal immigration are MOOT.

Deportation is just one of the band aids being stuck on this thing. Bottom line - even if all illegals got amnesty today, tomorrow we would be back to square one. That is where Obama is being particularly unhelpful. But again this is 20 years in the making and is way beyond a Dem or Republican issue but still the direct responsibility of the government of the day.

Okey dokey - then since the FBI (FEDERAL agency, not state or local) handles all bank robberies, the local law enforcement should just pick up the phone and sit back and wait for the agents to arrive in their location. No response other than a phone call to the Feebies.

The Obama administration has deported more illegal immigrants than any other administration.
10:32 AM on 08/24/2011
Obama has also stopped building border fences and has gone out of his way to stop states from protecting US citizens. Obama is also working hard to pass amnesty for illegals. He is also trying to pass a Dream Act that gives illegals a free pass to college.

Obama is just hurting a few illegals by deporting them without doing a thing to address the real problem. If Obama wanted to do right thing he would secure the borders (put 110,000 troops on the southern border), end NAFTA, and enforce E-verify with mandatory jail time for any manager to knowingly or unknowingly hires an illegal. Do that and you will create jobs for Americans!

Yet they refuse to go after the states or cities that violate federal law (not mirror or attempt to mirror it as this state is doing) with their sanctuary policies.

Solution for states that want illegals out - buy them a one-way bus ticket to the sanctuary cities and states. Much cheaper and easier than incarcerating them or trying to turn them over to ICE.

Illegal immigration is dealt with by federal not state government per our constitution. Here you have states overstepping their bounds.
10:29 AM on 08/24/2011
Only because the federal government is not doing their job.
10:31 AM on 08/24/2011
Obama seems to understand that concept very well. Tell me, why doesn't he enforce that with the Federal marijuana laws? How can States vote to make something legal when it is illegal by Federal law? Doesn't that create the "patchwork of laws" between States Obama is so against? Oh yeah....Obama is a hypocrite...I forgot.

What did the Republicans do about immigration in the six years they held both houses and the White House? Nothing!
"Apprehensions along the Southwest border overall dropped more than two-thirds from 2000 to 2010, from 1.6 million to 448,000, and almost every region has lonely posts where agents sit for hours staring at the barrier, watching the "fence rust" as some put it."
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/apr/21/local/la-me-border-boredom-20110421
So my question to the "conservatives" is: Why is it such a big problem now when it wasn't a problem when W was POTUS? Why are states passing their own laws now that border crossings are down?

Agreed! This should have been taken care of years ago. One thing that I didn't agree with when Bush was president. Clinton didn't do anything either. This has been brewing for a long time. The problem is Obama is going about it the wrong way also. He needs to FIRST CLOSE THE BORDERS! Until we do that we won't get anywhere.

Since this is a "civil" matter, I think we should all research other "civil laws" and see which ones we want to follow or ignore. Then, should we decide to ignore the civil laws, we can cry "discrimination", "racist", "bigotry" and all those other words the illegals and activists love.
12:15 PM on 08/24/2011
What would you do if some state decided to pass a law that bigoted white men are not allowed in the state?

Or members of whatever religion you belong to?

I'll bet we'd hear you screaming loud and long for equal protection under the law at that point!
