Steve Jobs is certainly one of the prime movers of information technology that's "computer" based.
09:18 AM on 08/25/2011
there was also the Apple Newton (generally the first "tablet" product of apple...) which was not a success.

The first real tablet mini-computer (netbook except there was no net) was made by Atari. It was a small hand held computer with keyboard. Never sold at all.

Yeah, I had one. It wasn't ultimately a success in itself, no. Rather, it was enough of a developmental success necessary to move forward to other products that were successful beyond one's imagination.

Steve Jobs will be a miss in the corridors of power within the Apple giant of this there is no dought. I'd like to think that the loss of focus within the company is short lived and the confidence will return to the share buyers all over the world. Steve has done for technolegy what Abe Lincoln did to shape America to what it is today.

He is the modern day version of great innovators - like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.

Thank you Steve for being 'you' and for your love of technology and innovation.

Your legacy will live on forever after you are gone - you will be remembered forever.

Sending you prayers and well wishes for the life you have left. Hope it's a long one.

He did not invent much. He didn't invent the first computer, mp3 player, or smart phone. He made technology more aesthetically appealing and easy to use. Why are we giving more credit than is due?

Great Tech.

You absolutely nailed that...now if you could turn that into a haiku, it would be perfection.
Full disclosure: i'm of that generation and totally concur.... we suck.

i agree pixar is a game changer in the industry, but steve had less to do with that than John Lassiter.. steve did know enough to invest 10m before they ever made a feature, but he was more investor than contributer.

Good catch. Maybe because it's so different than hardware or software. But you're certainly right.

of all steve's successes with apple i'll always consider the apple II their most revolutionary product because that's where it all began. though woz was responsible for the hardware inside, jobs was the one who knew how to market it to the masses during a time when people didn't know why they would want a computer or what they would do with one. everything we enjoy doing now on computers, whether you're using a mac, or a dell box running windows or linux, is a result what two guys created in their garage almost 35 years ago.

Bless you Steve as you step down and rest and relax after an amazing career!
You are a giant in this business and i have bought Apple products since 1993 without a single regret and every day with them brings me joy and contentment and peace!
I shed tears tonight and will miss your black turtle neck and jeans... what an icon YOU are!

I'm sorry, but I give more credit to the person who designed the physical aspects of the hardware. That takes a LOT of skill and know-how--way more than how to make things more pretty and market them to the masses.

well if you'd read any history of the early days you'd have known that steve also demanded that woz design the innards to his specifications.
