One of the first lessons in business is NEVER put anything in writing that can come back and haunt you. This "sexting" is so incredibly stupid for so many reasons, many of which are mentioned in the article. But if people are willing to risk their futures if their relationship goes south, then they deserve what they get.

"Real Intimacy" is Something Women Made Up. Real Men Only Need Sex. That's It! Period!

since it takes two, the real man and the woman wanting real intimacy, maybe you ought to pay more attention or the only sex you may be having is with yourself. :O)

Let's give guys the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, they are just helping other girls with their "buddy checks" via text messgaes...

Great article about how technology can get in the way of true connection and intimacy!
10:29 AM on 08/29/2011
Certainly men use technology too, and certainly some vastly important men were the early adopters of all communications technology, what with the military using Morse code telegraphy, stock brokers getting ticker tape updates, sports fans with portable radios, doctors being paged for emergency surgery, Johnny Lovebucket lying to each of his girlfriends on his cell phone.

But nothing like women are doing now. It's not the sexting, not the potential realtionships, not the flirting that's the problem. It's the total time suck of getting news flashes about Beyonce. The listening to each other breathing "all you still there?" Watching your device update itself or Facebook while you stare at it, pretending to do something with your fingers.

allow me to paint a little picture here, as observed sat eve re: disconnect via tech (so it's somewhat related to this): at dinner out, a table next to us w/ 5 teen gals, 1 mom. at any given moment, 3-4 gals w phones in front of faces, texting etc. silence reigned. desserts served all around (maybe a bday outing?), eaten in silence. tab paid, gals & mom exit restaurant, this entire gals outing lasting about as long as it took us to consume salad course. who in that group will even remember having been there?

That's why you shouldnt allow phones at the table. Its about respect.

They are "so connected" that they have become "disconnected" from the things in life that really matter, like interpersonal relationships.

good article, so imp on so many levels:
technology makes it too ez, whether the relationship is legit or not. if legit, each partner should be worth the effort of real-time, life's little obstacles, obstructions and distractions. if not legit, it simply facilitates the lying and dishonesty. in both worlds, yes indeed it can be a substitute that def replaces all kinds of necessary reality.
not only that, in all these interactions, tech allows for all participants to create/build on their own avatars - all stories i have ever heard from friends who seek dates online is how the real human falls either sadly short of the virtual presentation, or is a total sham of self.

In 2000, there were zero cases filing for divorce citing Facebook, because it didn't exist. In 2009, 50% of divorces cite Facebook as part or all of the reason a person wanted out of the relationship.

It's cheating if you can picture your partner's heart start racing and a rock forming in the pit of their stomach as tears well up because they found out what you're doing. If you can't/won't picture them, picture what you're doing and them being the culprit; see if the shoe fits on the other foot, so to speak. If you have a physical reaction similar to above, it's cheating.
