Gives being screwed by school a different meaning besides unjust grades or professors hitting on the new crop of freshman, girls and boys!

What does the photo have to do with the substance of the article? Really.

Also, not startling, the suggestion that gays are doing what straights have been doing for eons.

"But the willingness to date for money"

Date? Isn't that what hookers ask johns, do you want a date? No matter what you call it, it boils down to prostitution.

If we go along this line, then a person getting married to/sleeping with a "generous" rich person whom they don't love is a prostitute too then... We are all prosdtitutes one way or the other...

When you sell yourself in such a fashion it is what it is. Regardless of whether you command a high price or $20, or you trade sex for wealth and comfort, it is the same thing with a different payout.

This type of crative finance lack self-respect.
07:33 PM on 08/30/2011
They're told all the time they're growing up that without a college education they're screwed. Then, as they grow up they find out the cost of an education keeps getting jacked up while the Gophers fight to eliminate Pell grants and student loans.

The lack of self-respect is a nation that has an education system designed to charge as much as they can for an education to young people who have no choice and do the very best they can in a system that makes it harder and harder for them to ever have a chance in life.

That America charges it's young people hundreds of thousands of dollars for an education is the ultimate lack of self-respect as a Nation.

It's their bodies and if they want to sell themselves for sex have at it. However, the state shouldn't be responsible for any medical costs associated with this risky behavior. A college degree can be an expensive endeavor but what's wrong with working summers like kids did in the past to earn money for college? There's summer job programs that specifically target college kids.

I think a lot of these students probably didn't avail themselves of scholarship money and a lot of government subsidized financial aid. Perhaps they also should have chosen less expensive universities. Just because you are accepted at an expensive university doesn't mean that you should go there.

Having said that, summer earnings are a drop in the bucket. The smartest thing to do is to try to finish in 3 years! My son did that and saved himself at least 45K - not to mention what he will earn with a degree in that year.
10:20 AM on 08/31/2011
Summer jobs are far less plentiful than they were a few years ago, and the lucky students that find summer jobs as lifeguards, babysitters, waitresses, etc. aren't going to earn enough to make a dent in that $50K/year private school tuition. You can probably earn enough at a part time job to cover community college credits, but certainly not a place like NYU (that being said, if you can't afford NYU then choose another school).

Government-run free STD clinics are crucial to public health. Regardless of how someone contracted an STD it's in the community's interest to have a place where they can be treated quickly if they can't afford a private clinic. An epidemic is far more expensive to the tax payers.

i'm gay and graduated a couple years ago with $80,000 in student loan debt and NEVER thought about doing this, but i do know that it DOES happen far more than society realizes, and most of these young guys are NOT doing it to pay off education.

Just out of curiosity, what was your major and how are you applying it to the workforce to pay off that 80k?

3/4 of a Human being...
05:03 PM on 08/30/2011
This is nothing new, it's just that men are catching up to what has been both common and accepted for women to do. Not all of these guys are, technically speaking, "gay", either. Many many many of them are what is known as "gay for pay", many have girlfriends and/or wives. We all do what we must to survive, and so long as I'm not hurting anyone, what I choose to do is frankly none of your business. I personally never considered this route, but I hold no moral judgement against those who do, of either party.
Remember one basic fact of human nature, walk a mile in a man's shoes before making judgments.

Maybe an airport stall to a conservative is like going Dorothy going to OZ. What happens in OZ stays in OZ... or so they thought.

Why not get the money from government employees? Those Republican "sugar daddy" politicians seem to need male escorts to carry their bags on overseas trips. I've lost count of Republican "family values" politicians who've recently been caught "mentoring" young Gay men. At least those rich Republicans are spreading the wealth. Gotta give em credit.

Of course they are, so. It's sad that some students/people (men AND women) have to resort to the sex trade to survive but this isn't new or shocking. So many single AND MARRIED men and women don't want the encumbrances of a relationship (gay/straight) so they have "sex for fees". Hopefully not to "shock" further I will also mention that there are lesbian prostitutes too.
