Maybe it's the only planet in our solar system with intelligent life... I thought this one did until I heard Sarah Palin speak.

Your comment declares that there is no intelligent life on the earth. Perhaps you care to re-phrase...or not.

Imagine if Detroit were to make an automobile that lasted 30 times its expected life. Remember this the next time some pseudo-con tries to claim that the government can't do things as well as the private sector.

Well NASA is an example of how private industry and an efficient federal agency can operate in harmony thus producing great results such as this.

People tend to forget it's all about efficiency and not the size that makes things work well.

I suspect NASA and others in the know are well aware the universe is teeming with life and this article is part of the agonizingly slow declassification/disclosure effort. Point your robot at Cydonia and show us something really interesting.

How do you imagine that NASA and others would be aware that the universe is teeming with life?

What technology do you think NASA has that revealed this truth?

They were really excited when they discovered one of the Rovers was examining a meteorite on the surface several years ago.

I was really excited too to find they had lifted that information off my web page without giving me credit. If you set the bar really low you will never be disappointed by NASA.

Hmmm...you must be wild at parties with such a sense of humor. But the irony of this is they've been trying to find "life" and to prove that human beings are nothing special, and spending trillions doing it. Where the irony comes in is that the truth of the matter is, there is other intelligent life in the universe -- or universes for all I know -- right under their noses, so to speak.

Deal...at least for a while. It's only rarely that I'm overcome with the "holy spirit" in such a way. It usually happens after I've read about 200 comments in a row from that pack of tinfoil hatters who turn up periodically to insist that Global Warming is a conspiracy inflicted on us by crooked scientists.

The military spends as much money every year on air conditioning their tents as the government spends on funding Nasa.

I say get the hell out of the desert where we are doing nothing but killing people and let's think about our future. Or do you want to let the Chinese or the Europeans be the ones to do it?

Russians claim they can do a Moon shot by 2014 using basically the equipment they have now. They figure the cost at about $200 million. Further, they plan to sell 2 of the 3 seats to pay for it. The trip would not orbit the Moon. It would be a slingshot. China figures they can do the same thing by 2018. We won't even have a spacefaring vehicle of any kind until 2016. Though some of the private partners think they can have one by 2014. Unless your planning on sending Wyle E Coyote on a one way trip by strapping a bunch of bottle rockets to his back, I don't think Mars is going to happen anytime soon.

I don't think "bash" and "hate" aptly characterize scooby's intent. Maybe extreme interpretations have as much to do with polarizing the conversation as the comments themselves have.
04:21 AM on 09/03/2011
What is wrong with YOU?

The GOP is the anti-science party. How many of them claim to not believe in evolution, and claim that thousands of scientists have contrived climate change as a "hoax"? They attack the EPA and environmentalism.

Is it too far of a stretch for the GOP to attack the science of NASA?
Not at all. Not at ALL....

Yes, I do hate people who are willfully ignorant.
