Freedom is the Issue

With the entire man caused global warming fraud perpetrated by the political left, it's hard to believe the Obama administration is till taking this disproven theory seriously. Even the primary scientists for this misdirected cause have been caught falsifying data, and omitting data that would show their theories are wrong. And now, the Obama group want to charge American industry billions to lower CO2 omissions that nobody can prove do any harm???? Thank goodness the rules have been delayed... They would probably be the last nail in the coffin of American industry.

Not perpetrated by the left, the left doesn't exist in this Country.Perpetrated by people like Al Gore, another Capitalist,to take resources away from the working class. The left and right in this Country is phoney, nothing is left to chance.
02:13 PM on 09/17/2011
Utter nonsense. That CO2 concentrations are rising is unassailably proved. That these rising concentrations are causing increasing global temperatures is overwhelmingly likely. There is NO proof of falsified data. There is already strong evidence of great environmental and economic harm from increasing global temperatures. There is NO evidence that a carbon tax would harm the economy.

"For a healthy economy, you have to have healthy people," Elizabeth Martin Perera.

That's a nice play on words, but it's obviously not true.

We'd make a lot more money if we just polluted with gay abandon, let people die young and open up more jobs for the unemployed:win-win-win!

What is true, is that the issue is very complex as well as ambiguous.

Rather than butt heads with industry, the EPA really ought to focus on waste recycling and reuse projects that would make the capture of air, liquid or solid waste profitable, or, at least, pay for itself.

For instance, I could see coal fired power plants producing Fischer-Tropsh or Bergius Process fuel as a profitable side line from their emmissions.

As we continue to over populate the globe and resources diminsh, most any process we come up with will eventually become cost effective, depending upon how practical it is. The EPA, however, is just a combination of beauracracy and academics who chase away the very talent and expertise it takes to come up with these novel processes, as well as the money it takes to fund their development.

The talent belongs to people who who can just relocate their operations rather than reengineer their plants every 5 years or invest in novel schemes with unknown viabilty.

Those novel schemes are the best answer, not demonizing industry that provides jobs and the the products that make our lives as comfortable as they are.

Global warming will bring more disease now? (See 11th paragraph)

When did that become a fact? Is the state of Florida more disease ridden than the state of New York? Having lived in both, I find that unlikely to be the case.

And where would that money come from? Do you really think there are billions in utility company coffers just sitting around waiting for a bureaucrats order to start spending? Even Obama admitted this rule would dramatically raise the cost of electricity. Is fighting the phantom CO2 bogeyman worth the cost?

With Monsanto running the EPA don't expect any favorable decisions made on behalf of Mother Earth. They'll continue to treat her like a toxic waste dump, as they always have. In our society power and money trump clean water, fresh air, non-GMO food and pretty much anything else that gets in the way of commerce.

If you're buying seed for your own use, do a search for "heirloom seeds" for whatever crop you're thinking about.

If Monsanto's genes got into them, they'll never know. I'd love to see them try and sue me, because they let their pollen get into my peanut butter!

A valid point. But you see the idea in capitalist America is to allways blame the individual for everything, their poor health, being unemployed, not having enough to retire,on and on.

We will still have unemployment in 2012. If EPA increased regulation, if Obama stopped XL pipeline, then Repubs will claim increased regulations cost jobs. Businesses hire, not environmentalists. If business says regulation cost jobs people believe them.

As usual, folks here want Obama to take their radical position, give government to Repubs in 2012. Because after all, there is no difference between a Dem who won't increase regulations, and a Repub who wants to eliminate them all. Same thing, according to radical Lefties.

And at what point do excessive regulations raise costs so high that businesses close down? All regulations are not good, and far too many businesses have closed up shop during the obama administration due to excessive regulatory costs. This has cost our country millions of jobs, and the fault lies with liberals who naively believe business can absorb the cost of any regulation they dish out
12:36 PM on 09/17/2011
What exactly does an environmental consultant do? I'm not being facetious, I'm interested to find out.

I already did, I recommended we stop attacking Obama, ensuring Repubs take over in 2012. You're mistake is thinking that not doing anything good (like Obama) is the same as not doing bad (like Repubs).

The US has had nothing but deregulation since Reagan. Including under Clinton, who repealed Glass-Steagall, deregulated the big banks. Obama has stopped that 30-year trend of deregulation, stop blaming him because he's not reversing it and adding new regulations. You have to stop regressing before you can make progress. Lack of Dem support for Obama elected Repubs in 2010. If Dems don't support Obama why should anyone vote for them?

The Left is shooting itself in the foot, killing the country while doing so. Like the Tea Party, their ideology is more important to them than the well-being of the country, hence my motto.

Either we decide to renew the Earth and transition out of polluting energies and industry, or we extinct ourselves and many animals along with us. That is the choice before us. With a corporate owned government at the moment, the prospect is grim that we will transition out of oil, coal and nuclear powers, or that our air will be clean, because the Koch brothers and powerful corporate lobbies don't wish it so and they're writing all the blank checks, thanks to Citizens United ☮

That choice will not be made, humans aren't rich enough. We will transition from carbon-based sources when they become prohibitively expensive. Fortunately that is happening already, we are running out of oil and natural gas despite the natgas hype. Electric will be the cheapest form of retail electricity most places in the US within five years.

Money creates change, not people's will. Money and greed are more powerful than good intentions. A carbon tax, gas taxes, that's the way to change people's behavior. But people don't want that, cheap energy is more important to them. Today is more important than the future, people are selfish.

Well said. And agree that, unfortunately, greed is more powerful than good intentions but catastrophe can also lead to change. Half of our nuclear power plants are leaking radioactive tritium and Fukushima still rages on; the American lung association confirmed that coal dust ki // s; oil rigs will keep exploding and ki // ing people and despoiling our planet and pristine waters, and as you say, we are running out of oil.

All of that will bring about the transition that is so desperately needed from fossil fuels to clean green energies. My dearest hope for the Earth, waters, air, animals, humans—all life—is that this transition starts occurring more rapidly in our lifetimes ☮
