Since 2008 more than 1,000 pubs in the Republic of Ireland have closed due to the smoking ban.
Many were pubs that had been in existence for hundreds of years.

That is sad. I loved the pubs when I last visited....bummer to find out there are less.

Beer is the only reason I am not a confirmed atheist. Surely this is one of the signs of the apocalypse!

Just as I was pondering all of the new problems the modern GOP has me obsessing over, I have to walk this path.

Dangit, just when I thought that drinking at home was the better option, I find out in yet another way what a drain on the economy I truly am.

Guess I better get back to shoveling coal into a Koch furnace, so I can have a pint at the pub and discuss my lung problems over a half a pack of American Spirits.

Seems I can't get out of my own way.

Cheers, clink.

With our laws becoming ever more restrictive with regard to drinking and driving it isnt sane to be out drinking further than one can walk, and there are laws against that too.
06:07 PM on 09/19/2011
Umm, before blaming our laws for everything, have you considered that the world is a much safer place without drunk drivers sharing the road with you?

I'm more worried about those texting and driving....they seem to be causing more accidents.

Overarching overreaching statements much?
So the world is a much safer place because MADD in their zeal for prohibition continue to prod lawmakers for more draconian laws to deal with people that drink and drive? Lets by all means then set up checkpoints and insure that any behavior that could result in an accident be equally penalized. Putting lipstick on while driving....100 hours communtiry service, restitution , penalties, fines and court costs. Eating while driving....throw the book at em!
There have always been adequate laws on the books to deal with people that cannot handle a few beers and driving. It is way beyond necessary to make everybody that has a beer, or even a few beers and drives a car an outlaw. The founder of MADD quit the organization for that very reason. I'm sick and tired of people infringing on my rights because they think they have a morally superior claim.

So, ummmmm, I dont buy into your postulation thank you very much.

You can save millions by eating you popcorn at home. An eight dollar bucket of popcorn costs enough to provide you with about five years of popping corn bought at the grocery store.

Surprisingly the movie theatre business hasn't seen any losses in revenue.

That's cause people are not taking a vacation, but going to the movies instead.

It is because the smell of popcorn in a theater acts like an addictive drug. It is almost impossible to resist. Any time that you can buy a small handful of corn kernels for three cents, heat them in a pan, and sell them for eight dollars, you will likely not suffer revenue problems. Think I'll check the paper and see what's showing. Cheers.

What do restaurants and bars expect? The mark-up on any alcoholic beverage served is 100 to 500 percent of what you pay at the liquor store. Go to sports event-it's even worse.

I rarely drink, let alone at home. I did however just get some lovely white widow seeds in the mail today.

I have really gotten into gardening since I have been laid off. I live in a fairly small apartment in Southern California. I have started an herb and vegetable garden on my balcony and I have this walk-in hall closet that I converted into my own little grow room.

And think of all the money lawyers will get from the DUI cases!Hospitals, funeral homes and auto body shops will also prosper if America goes out to drink more! Although insurance companies will whine a lot.

Makes sense. Why would people spend sixty dollars at a bar, when they can spend six at home? No jobs, no customers...its a vicious downward spiral.

Quit charging us so much to leave our houses, and maybe we'll make good use of the businesses in our neighborhoods.

If you can't accommodate the common man, quit complaining about the economy.

Next we will be told we have to go to Union owned bars to drink. Wait, you'll see !

Unions don't own bars. People own bars and they may or may not hire union employees.
