makeup and hair are disappointing for a Vogue cover.

I agree.. and the cover headlines look very boring,. as if there is nothing in the magazine to make me buy it.

You are black. You are not blonde or redheaded.....black. If you do not like you skin color, try the Michael Jackson technique and turn yourself into a white girl. Pretty sad when you have to aletr yourself to please another race because your not going anywhere as a black singer.
10:59 AM on 10/03/2011
What are you talking about? Firstly, there are black people who are natural blondes and redheads. There are even black people born with blue eyes,or other lightly colored eyes. Rihanna, for example, has natural hazel eyes. Why is it that because she wears a wig at a FASHION shoot, she is suddenly trying to deny or betray her race? Is it truly that serious? And furthermore, why is it that if a white person tans for darker skin and dyes their hair no one accuses them of trying to betray their race? One last thing, your whole Michael Jackson comment is ignorant too. He had a skin disease called Vitiligo. I've known someone with this condition. They don't change their skin color by choice. You're a very ignorant person.

Indeed, Black people come in many shades and colors. As a light skinned black woman from Barbados as well I can attest that I was born with red hair. As I got older it turned light brown but we are born with different skin color, eye color and hair color. To state that we are only allowed to look a certain way is ignorance.... almost as ignorant as one stating that the only reason that white women get butt implants, lip injections and breast implants is to look like US.....

Black people do not have BLONDE HAIR -get over it- when we as black people comment about our brothers and sisters demeaning themselves to look like white people (I am looking at you Beyonce) we know that this is coming from a lack of acceptance within the true range of their beauty and it is sad. We are talking about pride.

I do not care about the things that white people do to augment themselves out of a lack of self esteem-but as a black woman who has to raise black children - it makes my job harder to explain to my beautiful black girls how to recognize and honor their own special beauty. Halle Berry, Angela Basset, Viola Davis honor their own black beauty. Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, and Keri Hilson...are lost.

BTW- Michael Jackson did not have Vitilogo - he chose to lighten his skin because of the hatred he felt when his own father demeaned his black beauty - he also had bad acne and used a drug to lighten his skin. His doctors cosigned but his first doctor stated that he did not have vitilogo - MJ fired him because this doctor was not on board with MJ's social experiement. when Prince reached superstar status - it pushed MJ over the ledge- that was why between the realse of Thriller and Bad MJ metamorphisis began - so sad!!

I just do not get the interest in this girl at all ... boring.

She looks horrible and has no actual talent, seems like anyone today can get a singing contract even though they are horrible singers.

Rihanna has very little real hair. I think people would be surprised how little. Guess what,,, sure does not affect her great talent.

Skin lightening via photoshop or creams.
11:16 AM on 10/03/2011
Because her skin is is missing her natural homeland.... When I am home I look tanned and healthy, the natural sun as well as the food and water keeps my skin looking sun kissed... When I leave there and return to NY then I start to look pale and my natural shine leaves me.

I think she looks great. Anyone can go blonde...you just have to find the right shade and tone for your skin tone.

While I'm not the biggest fan of Rihanna as a blonde, she looks classy on this cover.

It would have been nice if they didn't lighten her skin in Photoshop. These magazines and corporations don't allow black women to stay black on their covers and in their ads. It's wrong.

She Is a mannequin, like any model, a blank canvas to sell a dress.

Nothing about her is important to the artist designing the cover, except selling.

Job well done...if the dress and issue sell.

Rhianna is a brand unto herself. They put her on the cover to sell magazines b/c she's RIHANNA - not just "any model". It kind of astonishes me how flippant people can be about the fact that these corporate entities constantly lighten women of color -Rhianna, Beyonce, Freida Pinto. Basically, you're saying it's not important that they be conveyed as ethnic, that it's ok for dark women to be turned white - just as long as their products sell. Your attitude is pretty horrifying and gross. This is why so many black children think that their dark skin is "bad" and why so many black children wish that they were lighter and or white. The media sends them these signals. Their "role models" send them these signals. Attitudes like yours - Send Them These Signals.
