Donald Trump, and the Triumph of the Frame

(0) Comments | Posted May 1, 2016 | 6:28 PM

The American conventional wisdom pushers still don't understand either populist movement raging within it's walls. The Trump phenomenon isn't just ignorant nativist populist rage, it's a deep seated anarchist malevolence that comes from the indoctrination of people into believing that even the facts themselves can differ person by person. Get...

Seattle's The Bismarck Hit the Bay Area, and You Should See Them

(0) Comments | Posted April 5, 2013 | 2:06 PM

I am hard-pressed to think of a band more hard working, that delivers so much quality music that is treated with more disdain than Seattle's The Bismarck. That's why I sincerely hope people come see them this weekend in the Bay Area.

House of Cards: One of the Best Shows on TV Isn't Even on TV

(1) Comments | Posted February 12, 2013 | 11:49 AM

House of Cards is a brilliant drama "TV show" full of political skullduggery and machinations that is up there with the best of what is going on now, but that's only one of the reasons it's so important.

I had seen the preview for it. It seemed intriguing....

G.N.A.R.B.O.O.T.S "Cats In Pajamas" Video: One Part David Lynch, One Part Cat Fancy

(0) Comments | Posted January 11, 2013 | 11:45 AM

The internet has largely become a place of passive voice advice asking and giving, and pictures of cats with "funny" sayings. As far as the latter: Bay Area smart alec band GNARBOOTS has just upped the ante with their contribution to a cat-themed compilation that's straight nightmare fodder. One part...

The Occupy Movement Is Not a Bunch of Filthy Hippies, It's Something Brand New

(4) Comments | Posted November 3, 2011 | 5:19 PM

To cynics and critics of the Occupy movement, I regret to inform you that it's not just a collection of filthy hippies and the terminally unemployable looking for handouts. It's America, it's aggravated and it's unlike anything that we've seen before.

First of all, can we just drop the false...

There Are Other Stories, but This One's Ours -- An SF Record Release in the Age Of Indifference

(1) Comments | Posted September 16, 2011 | 4:48 PM

Today is the record release of my band's record: These Things are Facts. There's been a lot of build up to this, the first Victory and Associates record, and it's been a long time coming. We tried our best to make a record of and for the times. I'm proud...

Hey San Francisco, Why Don't You Like Live Music?

(11) Comments | Posted July 15, 2011 | 7:22 PM

It's a common complaint among the creative class in World Class Cities, but here's the deal, I sometimes think there might be something there. Why is SF so indifferent to music, especially the "L-word." No, not that one. Local music.

If you talk to any band, they will almost always...

Why Might Just End Up Saving Music

(34) Comments | Posted July 5, 2011 | 8:40 AM

There's Pandora, Mog,, etc. Yeah, yeah, ok, ok we get it. People listen to music in different ways now, and in it's ubiquity music has lost some of it's value as currency. Well, I'm going to explain to you about and how it just might end up "Saving...

They Aren't Pro-Life, They Are Anti-Choice

(15) Comments | Posted February 22, 2011 | 4:18 PM

I want anybody that cares about what a woman is allowed to do with her body to do one simple thing. Do not let ANYBODY use the term pro-life, ever. If they do, stop and challenge immediately. "Oh, so you are against the death penalty?" listen to them hem and...

"Funemployment" Indeed

(0) Comments | Posted November 14, 2010 | 4:49 PM

Whoever coined that term really should get a punch in the nose. Fun for a lucky few with no responsibility perhaps. For the rest of us, it's one step ahead of the reaper, a constant state of destitution and a cavalcade of debasement. There is nothing fun about unemployment, yet...

$10,000,000 to Make Weezer Break Up? It's a Grassroots Campaign!

(34) Comments | Posted October 6, 2010 | 1:21 PM

It may seem incredible in these dour economic times, but it looks like Rivers Cuomo's outfit has struck enough of a chord to incite actual grassroots action.

Unfortunately for Cuomo and his bandmates, it's for his band to break up.

The offer?

All from small dollar donations that...

Why the CEO of JP MorganChase Should Start Wearing a Cup

(2) Comments | Posted July 12, 2010 | 3:38 PM

It's no secret that the relationship between banks and their customers have never been more tense. The banks get multibillion dollar bailouts to remain solvent after criminally reckless investing. The bailouts are to keep the banks lending to consumers, and then the banks hold on to the money and do...

We Just Gave Karl Rove's Book a New Soundtrack

(7) Comments | Posted March 8, 2010 | 1:17 PM

On March 9, 2010, Karl Rove, "Bush's Brain" released a self-aggrandizing contrivance of his political past, Courage and Consequence, in all of its hard-bound, chicken hawk glory. On March 3rd, 2010, a coalition of up-and-coming rock bands released an anticipatory sonic recollection of the gross misdeeds attributable to Rove over...
