An airline seat manufacturer recently released a space-saving airplane seating formation that can only be described as nightmarish.
It's easy to find things to complain about when it comes to airplane designs: narrow seats, not enough legroom, small overhead bins. But even on the most claustrophobic of flights, at least we can put on headphones, lower the armrest, and ignore everyone around us, right? WRONG, according to one airline seat manufacturer.
Zodiac Seats France has introduced a new seating configuration that should only exist in the darkest of nightmares. The design takes the already dreaded middle seat of the row and rotates it 180 degrees to maximize space, thus establishing the "Economy Class Cabin Hexagon."
Let's pause to consider the realities of this situation: Unavoidable eye contact. Unavoidable hand-holding with your neighbors. Unavoidable awkwardness as you try to somehow get to the restroom.
While there's no guarantee these seats will actually get made, Zodiac Seats has already managed to secure a patent for their design. It is our responsibility now to make sure that's as far as this concept gets. After all, it was Albert Einstein who once said, "The world is a dangerous place to live--not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."
