Runway to Home Design: Mix Bold Prints in Any Space

Fashion Week has officially kicked off this past week in New York, but while the runway is all about what to wear, it can also be a cool secret source for chic home decor ideas. While Spring 2013 is showing now, you can get plenty of fresh design and decor inspiration for any space by looking to some of the current Fall season's hottest trends -- retail sites, fashion show snaps and fashion magazines are ripe with plenty of pictures of the look to spark a little inspiration.

One trend that easily translates from runway shows to home takes a cue from the likes of Prada and Marc Jacobs with mixing big, bold prints. The look is meant to be a little unexpected and haphazard - the bolder and bigger the prints, the better! This 'anything goes' workability makes it an easy trend to pull off in any space. Go ahead and get a little creative! If you're not sure, a rule of thumb can be to stay within the same color palette and mix up the prints from there. Though plenty of runway collections showed anything but, so if you want to really go all out don't be shy -- mix colors, prints, you name it.

What's great about this trend is that it can be incorporated using large furniture pieces, such as a print couch or great chair. Or you can work it as an instant, easy update with a print rug and pillows to punch up your existing furniture. It can also work with other decor items -- a grouping of vases in mixed, bold prints can be a hip element on a buffet table or dresser. Bedding is also an easy go-to for the look. In fact, stores like Z Gallerie and West Elm are showing options already put together.

If you love the trend but aren't sure you want to revamp an entire space, simply work a bunch of mixed print pillows on a couch, love seat, chair or bed.
