Let's Retire Stupak

Posted: 04/09/10 01:37 AM ET

Today, we've just learned Bart Stupak is thinking about retiring. We need to send him a message loud and clear -- people are tired of Washington politicians putting their own personal agendas ahead of the best interests of the people.

Please contribute right now and let's RETIRE Stupak:

By threatening historic health care reform, Bart Stupak attacked everything it means to be a Democrat and risked derailing the core vision of the Democratic Party. Stupak lost our trust, let down the people he is supposed to represent and no longer deserves to be our Representative.

Let's RETIRE Stupak. Please contribute $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can today:

Our campaign is about getting past the kind of political obstruction and grandstanding that marred the health care debate and instead replacing it with a politics that works for all people.

That's why I am running -- to represent the true Democratic values of the First District -- affordable, accessible health care for all Americans, health care that allows women the opportunity to make responsible life decisions for themselves and their families, protecting our Great Lakes and other precious natural resources, and fighting to put people in our district, so hard hit by this recession, back to work.

This campaign is your chance to fight back and take a stand. I hope you will join with me and let's RETIRE Bart Stupak together.

Other Democrats in the district may soon be giving Connie some stiff competition for the nomination.

"With his retirement announcement, five Democratic state legislators – including Senate Democratic Leader Mike Prusi – say they may run for Stupak's seat. Kevin Elsenheimer, the state House GOP leader, also is showing interest."

Republican Eisenheimer limited Connie to just under 37% of the vote when the two faced off in the 2008 election for the 105th state house seat.

With Stupak retiring, I'm sure one or more established Democrats may now decide to run and Connie will be surpassed. Below is a link to a site that gives good info on other potential candidates:

Plus Connie is being out raised 2-1 by the leading candidate for the Republican nomination; Dr. Dan Benishek.

Okay, Done. Now, why should democrats support you for the nomination in MI-1? My first take is that you are too "liberal" for the district by a lot. What say you?

Although I agree that de-railing healthcare completely because of an abortion public funding clause would be a bad move.. I have to admire that he stuck to the principles he believed in and didn't compromise those beliefs. From my understanding, from talking to one of the Stupak standouts, their intentions were to vote for the bill in the end no matter what. The holdout was trying to get what they wanted and saw fit. Many people were angered that there was going to be abortion public funding language in the bill, so I think ultimately it will pay off.

In spite of his holding up Health Care Reform (and probably endangering the lives of his constituents) in order to get "face time" on TV ?

Mr. Stupak was well awaire that his amendment was redundant in that the bill already prohibited the use of federal funding of abortion, it just didn't make second class citizens of females by making it impossible for them to obtain insurance to cover ectopic pregnancies, or pregnancy due to rape and incest with their own money.

Hopefully he will be censored by The House Ethics Committee and prosecuted by The IRS for not reporting his subsidized housing at the "C" Street building.

Good riddance !!!

Forget his botched anti-choice play on health care reform, stupak ought to be retired for his connection to C-Street.

Go Connie!
