Like it or not, home improvement television shows are everywhere. I don't talk about them all that much because I sort of live it everyday and, honestly, there just hasn't been anything really new and interesting I felt needed my mark on it. In other words: Boring!
Well, all that is about to change.
Sunday, October 16 at 10 p.m. EST, is the premiere episode of Million Dollar Contractor starring NY-based contractor rock star, Stephen Fanuka. I know Stephen, as we are both Open House NY alum. He's just one of those guys I know you're going to love. Home improvement programming has been -- save a few shows like Open House NY, George to the Rescue, Flipping Out and Property Brothers -- kinda lame and a little stale. Stephen Fanuka will bring a much needed fresh take on the otherwise formulaic before and after scenario we have become so accustomed to. For starters, he's a real contractor with a really successful business built up from almost nothing. I don't know about you, but I prefer not to take my home improvement advice from a 25-year-old douche with highlights and a spray tan (gross!) whose last gig was modeling for Abercrombie & Fitch.
Sorry dude, you're not my guy!
The half-hour series will give viewers behind-the-scenes access to some of the most amazing spaces and construction of Manhattan's high-end luxury homes like never before. But, shows are about so much more than that. You have to like -- or loathe -- the people in them! Stephen is likable, credible and very funny in that typically New York born-and-bred kind of way. It's probably why I relate to him so well, he's like the guys from the block I grew up with. And even though he's a true success story, he has managed to maintain his regular guy status. This is especially notable, given his client list reads like a Page Six column... Lindsay Lohan, Beyonce, Tony Bennett, Nate Berkus, the list goes on.
In his new show, Million Dollar Contractor, you will follow along as Stephen works on Manhattan dream homes for the Rich And Fabulous Set of New York City. His sidekicks are equally entertaining. I really like Ivan, but they're all characters that we call in the business "TV Gold." Meaning, you'll instantly love them.
You can catch the season premiere of Million Dollar Contractor on The DIY Network Sunday, October 16 at 10 p.m. EST. Here's a sneak peek!
Keep doing your thing, Stephen! We'll be watching.
