Bachmann Overdrive

Posted: 07/16/11 04:21 AM ET

With Countdown's David Shuster about Michele Bachmann's presidential prospects (Current TV, 7/15/11).

Semi-Deep Thought: Since she follows fundamentalist beliefs in marriage, which includes wives submitting to husbands as head of the household in all things, why not ask if she would take orders from Marcus in the Oval Office? No sillier, perhaps less so, than asking JFK if he would take orders from the Pope?

When I first saw this headline, I thought it was referring to "Bachman, Turner Overdrive" a band from the seventies. Guess I'm just showing my age.

Paraphrasing Bill Maher, if you see someone talking into a hairdryer claiming he's talking to God and getting answers, you call Bellview. Praying is the same thing without the hair dryer.

Michele says that " God" told her to run , she also believes that the Bible which " is smarter than her" tell her what to do so there is no great leap of faith to believe that she would not defer to her husband's judgment or opinions since he is the " head of the family" and she should submit to him in all matters as a loyal wife should do. I guess the only problem that exist is that when God " told her to run" he was not saying " run for office" he was telling her to " run" and seek help, professional help( not Marcus) she got the wrong idea, that's all.

I'd much rather ask her some really tough questions about US history, the Constitution, tax law, and where her Masters Degree in Tax Law really came from (her bio says William and Mary), since the only Masters Degree in Law that William and Mary offers is a Masters in the American Legal System for attorneys who received their law degrees outside the US.

Irrelevant as to whether his point is well taken. Fundies have strange belief systems, for sure. Would she decree that scientists stop doing research on evolution? Order museums to delete their content? Close universities who have science programs?

Well, first off, I don't believe their is a connecting tissue that connects all "Fundies."

Don't think she would advocate stopping research on evolution only to get equal consideration to creationism. Same with museums and university science programs.

Include such matters as the discovery and origin of Noah's Ark vis-a-vis the Book of Genesis.

Many "Fundies" believe that God has a hand in evolution, the Big Bang, etc. That evolution and creationism coexist.
