Talking with CNN's Brooke Baldwin about what to expect from the next big fight in debt reduction, I had to wonder where this is all headed.
I've seen many a joint committee and high-flying commission come and go over the years. I've got to go back to 1983 to recall a special commission that actually produced major reforms that won bipartisan support on Capitol Hill and became law. That was when President Reagan and House Speaker Tip O'Neill got behind Alan Greenspan's Social Security panel to significantly raise payroll taxes to keep Social Security solvent.
