Not since my separation from her have I even tried to publicly explain my choice. She is my friend, and we wrote a book together, but her increasingly strident views had caused me concern, to the point that days before her now infamous meltdown I had realized that our association must end -- as I explain in this recent interview with Don Imus. Helen's pioneering role for women journalists, and her fearless questioning of presidents and their minions should not be forgotten, but sadly her career ended in a disgrace of her choosing.
