Crawford, you are a mainstay. I'll predict right here, this election will surpass Clinton's victories because of the lack of a major third party candidate. His electoral college vote will be the same as Clinton's, +-10 and his popular vote margin will be +8. Young people, don't let me down. My bragging rights depend on you.
The senate will be 2 shy of 60 for the Democrats. Pity. That will give the Republicans ample power to block legislation given the horrendous load of what needs to be done.
The fight for the minds of men and women will not be over. This is a public awakening and a chance to reposition the fight on a level field. It is the most important step, awareness. But do not sleep until the divisions of the right and left are long banished. We cannot live nor will there be peace in a world where the rich and poor and middle are convulsed in a pitched battle over money. We can only survive and thrive in a world where there is a philosophy of balancing the needs of the poor and the ambitions of the rich.
My more ideological Republican friends think The Rich are deserving of their wealth and the it's the fault of The Poor that they are poor.
They also believe that The Rich are "more creative", the "drivers of the economy" and we should entrust them to "expand the size of the pie" etc. etc.
That's what they believe and that ideology shapes their every response in any campaign, no matter how specious, mean-spirited or wrong their candidates are.
This defines Republicans and the rest of us should not even bother trying to argue with them. Eventually we just end up on the defensive because their thought processes aren't vetted by their own brains. They serve only the purpose of validating their pre-ordained conclusions.
Of course just ONE of the fallacies of this line of reasoning is that 90% OF ALL WEALTH IS INHERITED. Hence their rabid opposition to the "death tax" and their indignation at the idea of "spreading the wealth".
Many of us Repubs (or former Repubs) realize that if you don't have the middle class strong that the rich will suffer too. That you do best as a business owner when your customers have disposable income. The more money people have to spend on non-necessities the better those businesses do.
We also realize that reducing taxes on rich *individuals* doesn't do a damn thing for nearly all job creation. A CEO getting a tax cut isn't going to go higher more people. That football or baseball player getting a tax cut isnt' going to higher more people. The day trader, stock broker, lawyer, etc isn't going to create more jobs because he personally is getting more income cause of lower taxes.
Lower taxes for businesses (which many get around paying taxes anyway) is how you create jobs. NOT by reducing individual taxes on the rich. You create jobs by reducing taxes on the largest amount of people you can (middle class), because that frees up more money for them to spend at businesses, who can then expand because of higher market potential, which creates more jobs, which results in more people able to buy more goods, which results in more expansion and jobs...
Money flows up anyway. Taxes helps to keep too much from getting locked in at the top. An economy is strongest when money moves... when it sits then things fall apart. Example: Last 3 years.
From your mouth to God's ears.
