What Will Someday Come to Pass

I couldn't go to school the morning after Robert F. Kennedy was killed. I had gone to sleep the night before, pleased that he had won the California primary, only to wake up learning that he was gone. It was a weirdly haunting recall of what is to this day my very first memory of watching television, seeing Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed in a live broadcast. Again, the world beyond my comfort zone seemed to be a horrible place. It wasn't until a day or so later, when Edward M. Kennedy eulogized his slain brother, that I could gather myself to go back to school. Much has been made of Teddy's emotionally strained voice in those moments, but it was his actual words that brought me around. Perhaps the saddest thing about Teddy's burial at Arlington on Saturday is that there were no brothers left to say what he said then -- but it's alright because, thanks to them, we can simply say it to ourselves:

Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will someday come to pass for all the world.

Sen Kennedy spoke for himself when
he wrote to the Pope that beautiful, heartfelt
letter He gave us his final goodbye and
let us know it was well with his soul.
We are going to miss him I am glad
his wife allowed the priest to read it to
us.

I feel the same, may Senator Kennedy rest in peace and may the dream never die.

I'm 57 a father and a widowed grandpa with custody of a six yr old grandson. I have
two brothers and a sister; 4 nieces and nephews. For me, just the 6 yrboy is overwhelming sometimes. Ted Kennedy became father/ uncle to a clan of a dozen at least with the death of his brothers - what a
huge pack to shoulder. I listen to his n& n talk about how they always had an Uncle Teddy for this and
that - he was a huge part of their lives. Forget about the Senate. forget about politics and justice.
What he did for his brothers kids and his family. He became the father and adviser, the man and
boss for his entire family -- there's a full man and a full life right there.

Maybe there were no brothers ... but hearing the nieces and nephews speak about some of their memories and experiences with Uncle Ted were every bit as touching.
