Hey, folks like the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America are pushing a bill to get real educational benefits to the troops. Barack's behind this, and Bush/McCain's against.

The real bill, the "Webb/Hagel" bill, covers the cost of a four-year public school college education anywhere in the country.

It includes National Guardsmen and Reservists.

It's linked to the actual cost of college, which addresses inflation.

The fake bill is the "McCain/Graham/Burr" bill, doesn't address this big issues.

The real bill's supported by all the real veterans' service organizations, and by more than half the Senate and also the House.

There's a difference between saying one supports the troops, and actually doing it.

I am waiting for this to pick up steam and this is why either Hagel or Webb may be the best running partner for Obama. There is this false belief that because McCain was tortured at war, that this somehow makes him more adept on foreign policy. Yet, he has had a chance to support the Webb/Hagel bill and has refused to do so time and again. How can you be willing to keep troops in Iraq for 100 years (indefinitely), yet not be willing to give them the educational benefits that they have both deserved and earned when they return?

I feel terrible for even thinking this and terrible for writing it. And I feel so bad for our military sent out to a war zone to face death or horrible injuries to kill Iraqis for no reason whatsoever. But when we offer to pay for a college education in exchange for our fellow citizens signing up to help Bush wage his senseless war, we are bribing those who can't afford college to join this carnage. Is this bribe really beneficial for those who need money for college and is it beneficial for our nation to continue this war? I don't want to short-change our veterans more than they're already being taken advantage of. But I despise this evil war and I want it to end - for the despicable war itself and for the safety of our troops over there. I don't really know what's ethically and morally the right thing to do.
