A few days ago, I turned on the television and after some channel surfing came across what looked to be a political debate between two guys who, apparently, had thrown out the rules governing the debate and instead talked to each other and the viewers about real issues and ideas. Turns out it was a West Wing episode -- one that might have based its refreshing look at politics on the idea behind the Since Sliced Bread website.
Since Sliced Bread was founded, it seems, on frustration -- but frustration turned positive. Its founders are looking for common sense ideas that can eventually be implemented as laws that will strengthen our economy and restore the American Dream, by improving "the day-to-day lives of working men and women and their families."
More than that, the site will pay $100,000 for the best idea.
Specifically, they're looking for ideas that
A panel of 24 judges well versed in policy and the economics of business will choose the 21 top ideas and then the public will vote for their favorite in two elimination rounds.
This is a unique take on policy initiatives. Rather than discounting the voice of the people, Since Sliced Bread encourages all voices, knowing that somewhere in dialogue and sharing are seeds for better, less partisan ideas -- ideas that will move America ahead.
