Are you feeling frustrated? Would you like to get involved somehow in this Presidential campaign beyond writing a check for your favorite candidate?
Do you have some time and skills that might be employed to increase the probability that the next President's administration is comprised of the "best and brightest" Americans? If so, volunteer to work with the team at the Executive Branch Online (EBO).
What is EBO?
EBO is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make the operation of the federal government transparent and accountable to all Americans. It is an online model of the executive branch of our government. Every appointment our next President will make in his or her administration will be profiled. For now, we profile those who are currently in appointed positions and highlight what they do. We also make it easy for someone to apply for consideration as an appointee.
What is to come?
Washington Post columnist David Broder wrote in his Thursday's op-ed column, "I'd like to know where he [Obama] would turn for a Cabinet" and "I'd like to know what kind of people [he] would bring into his White House."
A project of EBO will be to urge the presidential candidates to disclose before the general election who they are considering for Cabinet appointments.
Our team also expects that voters will want to know who else will be working with the candidate when he or she is elected.
Obviously, the next administration's top appointees will be chosen by the President. However, who will the 5,000 other appointees be? Will they be politicians, ideologues, fundraisers and lobbyists? Or will they be the best and the brightest Americans -- regardless of their political bent, gender, race or creed? EBO's very existence will make it more probable it will be the latter - "the best".
EBO needs your help
Our goal is to make the transition from the current administration to the next easier for the incoming president-elect -- for 2009 and beyond. This online process will dramatically facilitate the appointee hiring process.
But we need volunteers to help us. Much of our data needs updating. So, we're looking for help to make it current.
If you're proficient at research, phone calls, writing, data entry, or database work, we need you. All work can be done from home with a connection to the Internet,
Your work can help make the presidential appointment process more transparent, more efficient, and your efforts will make it easier for qualified people to be considered for these important positions.
If you have a few hours a week and want to join us, just send me an email with your name and phone number. We'll get in touch with you very quickly and look forward to working with you.
Best,
Dal
