So beyond all the statewide victories that Democrats had this week that are being spun into yarn and positive trend lines I sure hope continue, I wanted to put a plug in for the progressive "farm team". Lots of candidates down-ballot scored meaningful local victories this week, from school board candidates who won in Focus on the Family's James Dobson's backyard in Colorado to Dave Somers great win to create a 2-1 majority on the Snohomish (Wa) County Council. All in all, in elections on November 1st and 8th, voters in Washington State, Colorado, and Arizona voted for progressive values and candidates at a rate of 66%.
While it's natural to focus on the big races, it will be through hard fought county commission, state rep, school board and other local races that we will be grooming a diverse set of new leaders who are self-identified progressives from the beginning.
So allow me a plug for a group on whose board I serve -- as pretty much just a slacker and cheerleader. Key to many of these victories was the hard work and technical support from the great team at Progressive Majority which takes seriously the mission of movement-building, state by state, and local race by local race. Progressive Majority aims to essentially do for truly progressive candidates what Emily's List did for women candidates and it's quietly been building a serious track record in the last few years. So I urge you to check them out and offer them your thanks and encouragement.
